True, but the fact they didn't bother to change the Rad after the test put paid to my theory about marginal engine temperatures, as this would be the first thing to change.

Also this is McLaren, anal attention to detail, everything has to be spotless and clean. Bring back Ron, all is forgiven

Seem like the flow from the upper wishbone goes over the sidepod to the rear wing, and the lower wishbones into the sidepod inlet.... hmm

Good pace from the mclaren showed at last, as the link says macca say the reasoning behind the 08 wing was a lack of a High HD 09 spec wing, makes sense.
Im smelling a red herring there. I think that the McLaren has some rear stability problems with the 09 wing specs, and they havnt got a diffuser that can make up for the lack of grip.

Im shure that they could have had at least a good few wings made up for testing, or have they just asumed that they would have the grip and downforce required.
Think you're making far too much of it. If McLaren know that they're modifying the diffuser and rear wing to generate more downforce, why wait to test the balance - especially when they're focusing on long run pace (ie. tyre wear, reliability, etc.)

This is the first year where the teams have had the option to run last years higher downforce wing to simulate this kind of stuff. Why not utilise that option where it makes sense to do so?
That makes sence, to have a higher wear rate just to test what the tyres are capable of.

Hi im new

Can anyone explain the difference in the sizes of the Mclaren exhausts. The sizes were the same at the beginning of the test when they had the narrower rear wing on, but now they have the modified wider rear wing they have changed the right hand exhaust. It is much larger than the left one.

The two sidepods have different radiators for different cooling circuits, oil and water. They have different massflow requirements, so require slightly different exit areas.

Welcome.

It is as said above, the diffrent cooling needs.

The cooling systems are not symmetrical in F1 cars; one side houses the water heat exchangers and the other has the oil heat exchangers. So, the requirements for air-flow will change as the coefficients of heat transfer will be different for each system so more flow is required at one side compared to the other: this is why we generally haven't seen symmetrical cooling slits and fins in recent years. And since regulations this year severely restrict cooling outlets, Mclaren may have used the exhaust exits as a way to get air out of the car. This is just an educated guess though.

They don't. They are racist spaniards that have gone there just to boo at Hamilton and trhow fluorescent parafine to any McLaren that gets close enough.

EDIT: I've had a pretty bad day today, so I apologise to Diesel for being too cynic and not tactful at all, so I just jumped way overboard for this. In any case, the fluorescent parafine stuff was meant as a humorous note. Humorous in McLaren Hate + Spanish Public = Big Paintball in CFD disguise (see the green paint posts)

I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

Erm.. :?

What I meant to share in that post was the attendance levels at a test session. Since tests are usually lacking crowds, but it seems that this year promises a much higher public, at least during the pre-season. Since in-season testing is now highly restricted to shakedowns and small tests of that nature.

Fernando Alonso's presence might have had something to do with the high attendance as well...

Really? I only thought a couple of those people would be stupid enuff to dress in gorilla suits... but now you tell us its the whole stand full... the racism problem is much worse than we thought... somebody should do something.

I thought most of those people were there to cheer Alonso(as opposed to Nelsino) but thank you for informing us of the real reason.
