"McLaren at the moment the fastest Mercedes-customer
The best impression of the Mercedes clientele left McLaren. Apparently, the new diffuser and the close-fitting engine cowling have increases downforce at the rear." http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 61471.html
Well that didn't work out did it? Ended up last of the 4 Merc powered teams.
Does anyone know if Button's fast FP1 used any experimental parts that were not used for the rest of the weekend? Or was it simply that he was on low fuel, perhaps with reduced ride height or unlimited fuel flow? In essence, was it a glory run or was it a precursor of things to come?
He didn't mention anything about experimental parts, just lower temperatures and I think he said somehting about fuel loads as well.
Yup, it was purely down to temperature. Was a lot cooler in FP1, and the McLaren seems to come alive in a very narrow window of temperature. The potential in this car is definitely there, they just need to understand why the car isn't working with this years tyre compounds. There's massive time to be found from small tweaks!
My first thought is that if it happens, it will be a pretty drastic change in airflow in that area and I'm not sure if the MP4-29 will cope with it. Lotus might have a car that could deal with a more "normal" nose (if we can call "normal" the d**k noses), but I have some doubts if the other way around is possible.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe."Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

I am italian,
This news was written by Giorgio Piola
Giorgio Piola occasionally discover something 'cause working in the paddock for years, he writes with great confidence that McLaren will have' the nose.
Although I am skeptical
It's a -_-' reasoning. How many teams changed their nose design since the beginng of the season? and copied another design? how many team copied the best cars nose; the Merc, the RBR..?
