Idk if he really didn't use it at all but they seemed to run a very basic programm today.
Leclerc said they changed their approach to testing compared to last year.

It looks like Ferrari give all customers to run the engine to certain settings... We will see tomorrow if they allow higher power modes.

Ferrari hiding something. This speed trap are realy strange. Charles 11 slower than Kubica with same engine.

Ferrari chasing DF over drag reduction might drop them a bit...

Today Lecler has never used the DRS as far as I've seen.

It’s very interesting.

Mercedes have openly admitted they have pretty much dumped last years concept due to changes everywhere. If have just given it to RP I can’t imagine McLaren will be overly happy.
They will be getting a Mercedes engine next year, so I'm sure won't be complaining too hard and upsetting any future relationships.

F1 is a business and RP potentially just got ahead of Mclaren due to a business move. Which is fair in my opinion.
I still don’t like it. I didn’t when Haas/Ferrari did it and I still don’t like it now.

Teams shouldn’t be buddying up with other teams. I brings about silly games and an unfair field during a race. We shouldn’t have a situation where 1 team gets a wave past whilst another faces a mobile roadblock!

I for one think that Vettel wasn't on 1st day is a small hit in Ferrari. I am not a Vettel fan and i really like Leclerc but i don't think he is up to go back to the pits after a run and have good info to mechanics. Maybe i am wrong, its just a feeling.

One useles comparison. I will compare the fastest time of a team from today, to the fastest time of testing last year (all days).

Ferrari: -1:16.221+1:18.289= +2.067
Mercedes: -1:16.224+1:16.976= +0.752
Renault: -1:16.843+1:17.873= +1.030
Toro Rosso/AT: -1:16.882+1:17.698= +0.816
McLaren: -1:16.913+1:17.842= +0.929
Haas: -1:17.076+1:18.466= +1.390
Red Bull: -1:17.091+1:17.516= +0.425
Alfa Romeo: -1:17.239+1:18.386= +1.147
Racing Point: -1:17.556+1:17.375= -0.181
Williams: -1:18.130+1:18.168 = +0.038

So, the only car that is faster is Racing Points W10, and the other car that is really close is FW43.
I like that.

RP the biggest progress? Yes, logic, poor car last year, W10 this year
Williams big progress? Seems logical as well
Then Red Bull seem indeed very strong
Then Mercedes seem indeed to have made big progress again

For Ferrari... I'm not sure, they were "too" fast last year, and this year maybe, not opening DRS, so "too " slow
probably its hard to read anything out of it. I mean we compare the best times of the first day to the overall best times of last year. I think we have to wait a few days to get a real indication.
It’s a great analysis, because the assumption is that this years car should at the very least be every bit as quick as last years - hence we see who has been pushing how much relative to a year ago.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I'm amazed that people still need to clarify that winter testing isn't representative of any team's performance, especially on day 1.

One wee theory which maybe should be flushed away:
Whoever is having a great time with the engines at half beans and 7C air temperature, might have a slight problem with the engines at full and 30C air temperature in a few months.
In most cases, the majority is below the average.

Kevin Magnusen seemed happy with the car in post test interview. Ferrari engined cars could be holding back i think.

it means something, we just have to embrace some uncertainty and look a bit deeper. i mean it was obvious the gap from Mercedes isn't fully representative, but at the same time they're saying they can turn it up too. So yes Ferrari were taking it easy, but probably everybody else was too, it's a question of how much and why. Max was pushing at some points. And if Ferrari were taking it easier than others they were learning a bit less weren't they? So why? We know there was a reason, just not what it was. So that's not nothing, it's knowing something, within an area of uncertainty. We don't have to either know or not know
