A lot of Hamilton to Red Bull in 2013 talk but I think we could see him at Ferrari or Mercedes even.

Don't bet on Hamilton to RBR any time soon. As said earlier vettel and him would not play nice. Also don't bet on Hamilton to Ferrari, unless Alonso goes, far as i know they didn't get on.

The sums would be simple for McLaren. Having 2 WDC drivers has earnt them 2nd place in the WCC ahead of Ferrari. That's a difference of $10-20m in prize money that would be at risk if they opted for much weaker number 2 driver. Also Button does attract a serious amount of publicity that the sponsors will be loving.

Why all the talk about McLaren? The silly season is much more interesting at Ferrari & Renault

Good shout on the Mercedes link. Hamilton has already expressed interest in riding sportscars at Le Mans for Mercedes in an interview a while back. Something about him being a kid, watching the CLK GTR's kindled some sort of ambition for that.

Also there is the connection of Mercedes and McLaren, and then you have to factor in that Schumacher will probably call it a day in 2012, leaving a nice vacuum to be filled by a big name driver.

The points against is that Mercedes are a mile away from winning. 2013 may be a different story, but Mercedes would need to demonstrate positive gains in 2012 for this speculation to gather any sort of momentum.

And wouldn't it be some story if Hamilton did join and the car was capable of winning? I dont think there would be any better at taking the car by the scruff of the neck and wringing it to the maximum.

Wow JET. Is everyone in the paddock going to MGP according to you? Costa, Dyer, Prodromou, Vettel, and Hamilton, according to you? Come on now. Make your mind up.

The real question is who would take Hamilton? RB and Fer are out of bounds, so the next option is the team in 4th .... who are they? Oh yes, Mercedes! So its not so far fetched after all.

A year ago one might have thought Renault a likely option, but their implosion this season rules that out.

I think a bigger question is, who would Mercedes take?

+1

Its not to say that he will go to Merc, but if the situation at Mclaren gets more tenuous(far more so than now), Mercedes are pretty much the only option for Lewis.
The transition would also be a very smooth one IMO.

Yes but my point with my last post is; sure Merc would be Hamilton's best option. But would Hamilton be merc's best option? It takes two to tango

There's not much else in terms of talent, and they need someone with media impact too.

Kubica may have been a possibility, but it'd be a huge gamble since he's unproven after his crash. Anyone else?

Not a rats chance in hell!

Hamilton would suit Mercedes as I think by 2013 he'll be more seasoned and mature.
Not to say he isnt seasoned or mature....just more so.

Kimi? Well that's on topic, it puts the silly into "silly season"

Then again, Merc would get Kim further up the grid than Williams, and he reported to be talking to them. So maybe not so silly.

See what's happened? Now we have Kubica, Hamilton and Kimi lined up to inherit Schumi's seat. Come on now, make our collective minds up ;)

They're getting KubiHamkonnen.

He was trained in a test tube at Stuttgart's secret laboratory that operates outside the RRA and has been credited at creating a near perfect Schumacher clone that currently fills in for the real one, most notably at Monza and Spa....

Settled!
