If this is all true, then going back to being a journalist for SpeedTV might be counter productive for the channel. They tried to bolster him, and it didn't help USF1 all that much.

He basically made a sham of the whole thing, and will have lost some respect, making his pitlane walks very awkward, and considering Schumi doesn't giver PW the time of day, and hasn't for years except when he has to in the driver interview at the end of the race, what value does he still have as a journo now that one of the greatest drivers ever has returned.

Trying and failing is one thing, trying while flailing, another.
Before I do anything I ask myself “Would an idiot do that?” And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing. - Dwight Schrute

For Speedtv to run this story it must have some grain of truth,
looks like it might be "GoodnightVienna"

Interesting article on Autoweek Magazine's website today, saying their scheduled USF1 for today was cancelled with no further comment, and that PW has been replaced at Speed TV.

The grain of truth was scripted by Speedtv. This whole shebang was hatched by Speedtv.
And the epitath will steal thunder from some equally phoney human interest story of the Olympics
It’s said that ‘with tears in his eyes’ USF1 guiding light Peter Windsor  told Lopez, his father and his close associate – F1 TV producer Felipe McGough – that the team will miss the first three races of the season and probably thus the whole championship
:-({|=
and that PW has been replaced at Speed TV.
that it has no plans to ask the new man to step aside.
A lot of double talk and suposition if you ask me.

Citizen, which way to the vomitorium?

Autosport weighs in as well http://www.usf1formula1.com/2010/02/aut ... lood1.html

"Sources, within and without US F1, have suggested that co-founders Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor could be on the verge of parting company, but when asked for comment Windsor said: 'I am still with the team', while the latter responded with: 'Peter is still here at the moment, not sure what he is up to, stay tuned.' My money smells a reality show or at least a chance to be fired by Donald Trump
Then the book! (with apologies to Edgar Allen Poe, and the Royal Family)

BTW in Poe's times I think they tarred and feathered this particular brand of Slease-bag. (with tears in his eyes)

my question is: are they giving up totally? or are they giving up on making the 2010 season? with an entire year, i'm positive they could make the field for 2011, but perhaps that is not in their plans...interesting juncture here for usf1... :|

You mean if they are given another year that they could make it? They only announced their F1 team in Feb of 09, so it now takes 2 years to build a F1 team? Somebody call Lotus and tell them they can't compete this year because it's not possible to build an F1 team in in less than one year.

So it pretty much sounds like the project fails due to under funding. The only money they were asured was the Hurley start up fund and what their driver brought in. If they made it to the grid Bernie woulkd have payed his instalments on the 10 mil FOM payout for new teams. Were those all sources they eventually had? If Hurley is prepared to spend 10 or 20 mil $ at Dallara and Cosworth to get a team functional with the USF1 ticket the Ken and Peter show must be short of that kind of money at least. Did they simply write such sums as sponsorship to be negotiated into their budget? That was a bloody big gamble to run out of money before you even get a car to fire up.

Who was supposed to get the funds? One must assume that this was Windsor's department. It equally hits Anderson because he is responsible for it as team principal. Those two must have completely under estimated the capability to find sponsorship for a new team in the US. As it stands one has to assume that the globally operating corporations which are investing in F1 are not prepared to do that with an unproven American team. They simply have failed to attract the driving or marketing talent which would have uncorked the funding sources. Compared to Virgin and Lotus the obvious difference is the lack of a rich investor who is capable of pulling in other sponsors. No Fernandes or Branson at USF1. A sad story.

Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

More to the point, with all those proper racing organisations queuing to get in F1 will USF1 be given a second chance by FIA who were rightfully bashed by just about everyone for making the mess out of the selection process.

It is rumoured that Hurly moved on to Campos to try and cobble a team together there. But that made me think about the whole reason he doing it. Initially I thought he wasn't that much interested in racing and the whole idea was to support an American effort in top world class racing series and not just get involved in F1 in any way possible. But then, why Campos? Why not get into partnership with an existing team?
