Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

probably exiting.
I'm thinking they may work something like the blown front wheel nuts.

Would the chimneys need pre approved before being used during the test?

Nope. You could run a completely illegal car for the most part and still test it. With that being said, I don't think they would waste money/time on testing parts they assume to be illegal.

I was thinking maybe they wanted to do a quick real world test of blowing the end-plates. With wind tunnel and CFD time being drastically limited this year, it might be better to slap a part on the car, and see if the concept pays dividends. If it shows promise then they might consider spending wind tunnel and CFD time trying to perfect a legal part.

First post. :P

What about redirecting hot brake duct air towards the wing? Can hot air cause parts to flex?

inb4 flexing rear wing

Sounds logical to me...

The flowviz seems to be dried up?
Does it still work than?

Is it just me, or does it look like they've applied a way too thick layer of flow-viz paint on the sidepods? It looks to be too viscous or dried and leaving thick messy droplets on the floor.

I expect it's just that that area of the car is extremely hot, and the paint dries super fast on it.

Do you think it can still offer a meaningful reading?

Could be, but I don't think so, because the exhaust is not routed over there..

The exhaust is not the only hot thing in the car. The entire purpose of the side pods is to cool things down. If they weren't hot, they wouldn't exist.
