It doesn't have to be a bad sign but it could indeed.
It might be an indication that they are trying to find where the air behaves differently than expected from CFD. Especially the massive flow viz across the entire coke bottle is a bit strange. Suspecting separations?

I would have thought that to be normal after change the bargeboards ????

Oddly enough in some other pics I saw today I saw that they had reverted back to the old barge boards. Wondering if either the part didn't work as intended, it is a track specific part or if they are just running back to back testing.

Edit here is the pic from today. It is very grainy and the flowvis paint really doesn't help so I can't tell 100% if they did revert back to the old bargeboard or not.

Here is the new one that seems to have been run on Tuesday.

Edit number 2. In this pic from test day 2 there is what looks to be a 3rd design bargeboard design. It could be my eyes deceiving me or it could be that this one has slightly different shaping when viewed from the side. The picture is in the link but can't copy the link from my pic on my tablet because of how the page is set up.

Edit number 3. Ok if you look at the picture and zoom in and look carefully you can see that what I thought was a new bargeboard is actually in fact not new. If you look closely you can see a shadow. Seems I was talking absolute rubbish

Jenson managed to go a second quicker than he managed at the weekend, so some setup/engine mapping progress at least. Although I've no idea what tyres he was running, so i wouldn't read too much into it.

I noticed that during both test days they've been running the yellow tailed car, the one that normally Alonzo drives.

I wonder if that means anything????
-Have they found something with Button's car ?
-Maybe it's Button's car with a yellow tail?
-maybe it's a 3ird car?

by car I mean Chassis....

They were running the supersoft tyres...that's why he was faster...

Omnicorse.it also pointed out that "mclaren was unable to match their best lap from pre-season on the soft tyres with Button 1.7 seconds slower than the time set by Kevin Magnussen on Day Three of the final pre-season test."

That could be because the track layout for winter testing and for race weekend are different in the last section before the straight.

No they're not.

Just track temperatures are different.

Pointless... the thing is McLaren is evolving.

Alonso and Button's long runs on Saturday were 1min34,1s (average time), taking Alonso (1st stint) and mixing with Button's laps to complete a 'simulation of race' we obtained a 1min34,0s (pretty consistent with those long runs).

When you compare with Sainz and Kvyat, we could be fighting them both at the endo of race: 1min34,3s (average lap times for Both on Sunday).

And Ricciardo's 1min33,7s (average lap time - race) isn't much out of sight.

Image

Omnicorse saying that McLaren is lost...nothing new.

We'll fight the Williams (or at least Massa) in Monaco.
To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone. ― Bruce McLaren

Yeah, Air temperature was alot cooler. ICE and turbos love cool air...maybe they were running more boost too.

Maybe they were testing with the Monaco high downforce config...

Weren't the Mercedes doing 1:22s in testing and at this race the pole time was a 1:24 so I'm not surprised button was slower than kmag

Testing doesn't really tell us much about pace. Lets see what happens at Monaco

Plus you can run underweight if you chose in pre-season testing...not saying they were, but it's a possibility...

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
