I personally feel, there was no need for Mercedes to have those show boating runs! The script was looking great up until that point and they sort of spoiled it with an unconventional approach.
Those runs mean squat, though. It's easy to sandbag with PU mode/fuel, etc. on 1-lap. Race sims is where it's at and there Ferrari/Vettel are sitting pretty.
So people can only sandbag in qualy sims but not in race sims?
No way. Not on this planet. On every race weekend where Mercedes won, they were always the fastest on the two Friday practices. So, no.

Not from what I have seen.
What have you seen?
It's even easier to hide pace this year in race sims than you could in previous years. They can carry more fuel, and Merc said they will not be utilizing it.

Thus teams can carry more fuel than needed. This obscure what they are truly capable of, and allows them to test how the car/tires handles aggressive degradation.

Is Alpha Romeo expecting to start outside of top 10? Why else would you start a race (sim) on C2? With Midfield bunched up, there could be a possibility.

They can surely play with engine mod setting in race sim also

Off course they can, i dont what he is trying to sarc as well. Overfuel, used tyres, drive slow. ;)
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

What's even more impressive about Hamilton's time is that he drove the car in reverse for that lap! He put those upgraded mirror mounts to the test. What's even more impressive is that there is only one reverse gear, which limited his top speed.

And Lewis in C5 did 1.16.224 just +0.003 from Vettel's time
and he was 2 tenths off Vettel just in S1
Last sector is very good, but the other 2 are nothing special. He's slower on the speed traps as well.
Hmm.
Could be anything.
Vettel S1 21.695 , S2 28.221, S3 26.124
Lewis S1 21.814, S2 28.395, S3 25.922

and yes he is low of top speed on all sectors....which shows he might be on low engine mod
How fast was Hamilton in second sector at the speed trap? Vettel did his 28.221 with a speed trap of 302. I was watching the times.
As I’ve said earlier today, the sector times of the fastest laps seen on the monitor right now don’t match the speeds they actually had in the particular laps.
For whatever reason, the top speeds of each sectors written on the monitor right next to the sector times of the fastest laps of each driver aren’t the speeds they had when doing those laps, but the fastest sector speeds they achieved in whole day until that time.

Is DRS more or less effective in reverse? That might be his secret...

Red Bull is just over half a second slower...Honda and Red Bull need to put in work, that's a big hill to climb because the top two won't stand still.

That 15.8 is probably representative of pole, it's crazy how close Renault is to Red Bull. Hell how close the sister team is as well.

By far, they have the best chassis on the grid. Newey has also claimed that, their aero philosophy is completely flexible and they can simply bolt a Ferrari style front wing and the car works just fine. Melbourne can't come sooner.

still helmut marko said over the last days they are in front of mercedes. Why on earth did he said that many times?
Is this the mclaren phenomen to talk to everyone how good they are and then failing hard?

I'm not ready to give up on the 3 horse fight hope yet. RB didn't really get proper race sim running. They had that partial one from Max but the stint lengths were unusual. Plus wasn't there a rumor of a lot of upgrades with Horner claiming the car would look different? I only really saw some minor changes.

I was wondering if they were holding out for the last day (as Newey likes to do) and then they couldn't do use the new parts because of the accident yesterday.
