McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

maybe they can bitch about their weak engine this way and Renault can live with it knowing they need a lot of HP to move the water..
Seriously ..I think this is a trend... errm.. F1 engines have engine driven waterpumps still?

i think most teams use transverse flow radiators now so a long radiator will feature a lot of short tubes...leading to a not very good flow situation at the exit of the inlet pipe as well as the outlet pipe leading back to the engine on both radiator connections you would have a very severe change in crossection leading to losses -plus the flow speed in the (core)tubes will be slow .Having multiple pass radiators will help the transition from tube to radiator core tubes and of course will elongate the cooling path for the fluid keeping the speed up -without resorting to insane water pump speeds.

Ok I think it may be article 3.12.10, but doing so should breach 3.12.5 :?:

- Fins over sidepods to direct flow
- Bent front suspension arms for airflow again
Where are the wing mirrors?

I wonder how many people will oversleep and miss the start of the race programme as a result of the clocks going forward by 1 hour here in the civilised world on sunday morning?!?

Note that the clocks in Melbourne do not go backwards this weekend so it's not the double whammy 2hr time shift just yet.

@copperkipper1:

Are the suspension arms really bent?

Seems so, but what are the pros and cons of that design?

I don't remember bent suspension parts in the past.

cheers!

Certainly this must be for aero, as it's more of a disadvantage mechanically (but nothing to worry about).

Haha good response.

I can't actually see any mounting points for the mirrors in that image. Perhaps it's the angle of the photo?

The reason I said what I said about the mirrors was because of the reason Forty-two just stated...I can't really see any mounting points but looking at varoius pictures of the mp4-25 & 26 it shows that they dont just bolt on to external points on the outside tub.
