i think they wanted to put the rear upper arm within the rear wing end plates.
no beam wing this year.
moving the rear wheels forward would alter weight distribution, likely negatively as it seems like they tend to load the nose or tea tray with the ballast. also, i believe the rear wing placement is based on the rear wheel centerline, so moving the rear wheel forward would move the rear wing with it. as it is, they lengthen the back of the cars with unnecessarily long gearbox casings. they get a more gradual coke bottle, it tends to benefit aero.

I hadn't thought about the rear wheel centreline being a reference for other parts of the rear end. So it looks like they're trying to do something with the airflow around where the beam wing was last year in an "aero-neutral" way of course.

Those pictures were taken when he stopped coming out of the pits, so the car wouldn't be going fast enough for the wing to divert the flow where it's supposed to. (I think)

well ,it Shows how what you see can be very misleading when not put into context. flowviz without Video capture during the run synched with actual car and Environment data -ambient temps ,track temps,ground Speed air Speeds /wind ,sideforces may well lead to conclusions like the above - and entirely wrong.
I see in my working Environment more and more People drawing conclusions from incomplete and wrong assumptions only relying on colorful Pictures and not Facts related and verified to statistical data .
