Red Bull RB11 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Old stuff warmed up and nearly no detail analysis of the car.

Seems we have the new, shorter nose:

Looks the same to me; well, now it's a complete wing.

Yep, its the same. I can't imagine you could get that much smaller with the shape without having to go more Merc style?

Front wing flaps curvature is quite similar to Merc

I just love this front suspension geometry. Along the field it appears integrated steering arm is becoming a norm. Merc and Ferrari now both have steering arms integrated in lower wishbone, McLaren integrated it into upper wishbone. It's apparent teams would not go for it, unless it brings certain benefits and looks good on aero simulations. But seeing RB's take on it, I really think they put it further.

RB, like Lotus and Williams, left it outside. They moved it up from where it was in RB10: Image

And they brought it way up to upper wishbone, and didn't just align it with it, but even moved it a tinny bit higher over it's (curiously fat) front arm. It has a nice propeller-like shape to it, and when looking at topdown pictures of it posted by stefan_, it's apparent it'll not just let the air pass through it, as per regulations, but will also have quite a bit more to do with airflow over the suspension. I bet there was a lot of thought used into putting that steering arm there, and shaping that wishbone into that peculiar shape, and that's that extra bit more that we'd come to expect from this team.

Probably not new but an interesting solution there at the bottom of the rear wing base where it attaches to the floor.
They got their own slots (3) and just above that the Merc-esque big slots.

It seems the plate attached to hub of the upper wishbone is adjustable so that RB can easily adapt the suspension to the track. Also, the first rear brake duct blows directly onto the plate which is aerodynamically shaped, whereas most teams, it's not adjustable and also square. Interesting ideas & solutions from RB.
