It's one thing to give team orders when the driver behind is a lot faster, but it's completely another to ask for a driver, with faster pace, to go slower so that his team mate can catch up and overtake him to get more points for the tittle battle. It will be scandalous if the later happens today, imo.
I don't think it will happen today, at least not if Bottas is ahead and quicker than Hamilton. More likely is Hamilton being asked to move over and let a faster Bottas through if there's a sniff of a Mercedes win.
I think Lauda's team orders comments meant "we'll use team orders to secure team wins" not "we'll help one driver to the title at the expense of the other". Mercedes always puts the team win ahead of a particular driver win.
The team orders comment also makes it clear to Bottas and Hamilton that they need to be quick all the time. Every driver has an off weekend - Hamilton certainly has so far this weekend - but if they want to get the team behind them then they need to be consistent at all other times. I guess this is aimed more at Bottas as they know Hamilton is always fast (other than on his off days, if that makes sense).
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
