In the videos I've seen I think it does. I've yet to see one in person of course.

Im a fan of the deep big bellow sound myself, but horses for courses.
I dont see peoples fascination with the tinny V8 sound of a production Ferrari.
I wonder what note the macca will have?

As an fyi, the Maserati Gran Turismo is the gold standard, for obvious reasons.

I must admit that I felt McLaren were taking a large risk with this given the still fragile state of the car industry, but they don't really have an option. They are a solid engineering company whose expertise stems from Formula One and spills out, not a car company that is trying to do Formula One, and that's a crucial difference that will make or break them.

If anyone is going to suffer from a double-dip recession it's going to be the stack them high and sell them expensive existing car manufacturers, which is why they're all looking at consolidating engines and chassis. Their Formula One non-engine programs will disappear faster than you can say Brawn because the knowledge, skills and expertise doesn't flow from there to the rest of the company and therefore aren't worth anything. As we've seen, and are seeing, with car manufacturers they simply end up not knowing what to do with their Formula One teams.

If anything is going to see McLaren through it's their expertise, resources, manufacturing and production techniques, which frankly, from what we've seen in previous pages are light years ahead of anything any other competing car company has.

Rasping V8 with a metallic edge.

This is the sound most aim for, and if Mclaren's 12C can sound anything like as manic as this then it will sound great!

Nothing silly about that, just the reality. McLaren enter a market that isn't exactly expanding. Their product has got no really unique features and their margins are going to be smaller than their main competitor. If it works it is not going to be a second Google in terms of growth and profitability.

WB

Do you know the margins?
Also Mclaren have more racing pedigree than almost all their competitors, so they have route to market they can exploit.
Its logical progression.

Ferrari manufacture their own engine while McLaren have to get it made by a contractor. So they are obviously sharing some margin with the engine manufacturer.

Their sales price is supposed to come out lower than the Ferrari Italia which is likely to have lower cost due to economy of scale and higher Ferrari made content. So all indications are that McLaren will have smaller margins.

the margins for porsche are quite amazing something like 27% Porsche so it should be posible for mclaren to make a good profit from this.

the mac is unique in terms of carbonfibre chassis in that segment?
If the build quality is top notch ...lets see.
the production numbers p/y for the porsche turbo ar climbing all the time when normal versions sell fewer in the crisis ...so a annual market of say 1000 cars is not out of the world in my view considering the markets far east asia where the product is aimed at.these will buy one and a porsche and the benz..you would not buy the macs
if you HAVE to count your money ...

By outsourcing the engine, it can actually be cheaper than developing your own from scratch.
Mclaren dont have the capabilities to develop their own engine yet, so the overheads of staff and equipment not to mention space has been cut out.

They will only pay pay for every engine they sell.

In the long run this isnt ideal, but for a start up its the best way forward.
