Red Bull RB8 Renault

I'm very interested in knowing how this exhaust situation works out for Red Bull as I believe other teams will either follow suit in further developing an EBD arrangement or ditch the idea and move on to other things should RB8 clearly not go as well with the system Vettel is experimenting with today.

Well for one thing the Lotus is the quicker Renault-powered car, and they don't have the diffuser blowing...

Agreed. I hope the arguments regarding other teams needing to change to the RB or Mclaren arrangement is put to bed finally so we can all move on.

On the straights...?
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Ignoring the white stripe it looks identical.

Although something which I only just noticed was th subtle difference in radiator setups between presumably left and right hand sides.

What looks identical? Just the underneath of the sidepod/engine cover? The parts?

I don´t get the idea behind the gold foil -haven´t they done a comparison of performance of materials? Aluminium beats gold all day long..
also the heat shielding of the exhaust pipe towards the radiator is way too small ...not much weight saved for heating up the rads..

RB have lost the plot..trying outdated stuff this weekend...I´m surprised.

I presumed they were referring to the exhaust positioning, but looking closely the exhaust routing has changed. You can see in the 'old' picture that the exhaust comes from below and upwards before straightening. In the new it is bent forward, round and down before straightening.

Really? You really believe all that? Maybe they just thought it looked prettier. :P

Yeah that's why I was asking Owen, I wasn't sure if he saw the exhaust was different and the top was the launch spec exhaust. :)

Sorry I thought you meant old as in last race old since you can barely see the exhaust.

Has it been confirmed that RB will run the old exhaust system? I've heard they'll use testing "setups" but nothing specifically outlining aero package wise.

Have a look at this thread with words from the incomparable Ciro Pabon ...

Adrian just says "pre-season specification" but word in the paddock is it's the launch spec.

well aware of this but:I real life testing the available material is damn expensive and still has not any measurable advantage over aluminium .
The one thing really important is the oxidising bit but how long would you use the foil ...
Also ,very important :The foil is only good for radiated heat and ,sorry guys the area covered is not just seeing that kind of heat but also convection and heat flow.
Most of the time it just makes sense to spread out the heat instead of trying to reflect ...I did a lot of research in this lately and the sole advanatge of that gold stuff is :It´s quite thin( and it does look fancy...) Had much better performers in my investigations and VERY light indeed.

Red Bull says they're not convinced the new exhaust(introduced at end of BCN testing) is better than the launch spec exhaust. Interesting. They also say it's very difficult if not impossible to understand what the plume & exhaust gasses do in simulation/CFD/Wind Tunnel.
