Charles Leclerc -
We’ve got some new bits on the car coming, which I hope will help us to close that gap a little bit. Whether it will be enough to close the complete gap, I don’t think so, I don’t think that there’s [that] in what we’re bringing here but, I hope it will help us to at least be closer. It’s still quite a significant step.

In Suzuka – the gap that there was between McLaren and ourselves, which is 3 tenths, we need to work very hard in order to catch that, so that’s what we’re doing and I’m confident that we can close that gap. Hopefully short term we’ll have other things that will help us to be closer.

Turning out to be a rather important weekend for Ferrari. At the very least, they must validate their development direction

A lot of drivers are saying they expect McLaren to be more dominant here because of the high temperatures.

And both Ferrari drivers are cautioning us to not be too excited as they're still missing some pace. I think people need to be more pragmatic about where we'll be this weekend.

It's what I was thinking after Suzuka as well. Temperatures in China and Japan have been quite low, essentially neutralizing McLaren's advantage in temp management. Now in Bahrain we will have air temp upwards of 30C and track temp >= 40C. Melbourne qualifying was the closest we have had to those conditions, and in those conditions, McLaren were blowing everyone in the last sector just because they were the only ones who could keep the tires in peak condition at the end of the lap.

This weekend looks to be be about understanding for the team. If they are correct in analysing their technical problems and then to gauge if the intended response is going to ultimately affect the pace.

Late in the season in comparison to front runners, but unavoidable now they are where they are.

I'd guess a subtle weekend, but with any progress a quiet bonus in reality.

Even if they dont fully close the gap to Mclaren, Charles said the upgrades are still a significant step, so if one or both drivers can fight for the podium this weekend thats a big improvement over the last 3

Leclerc said very clearly those "rumors" from the Italian media about him and Ferrari or Hamilton fighting about the car's development are not true and he doesn't understand where they get that info from. (Obviously they just make it up.) So we can put that discussion to rest now...

Yup, Russell said the same thing for the same reasons as you.

Personally, I would be happy with a top 4 finish again and the drivers saying something positive about the car for once

Ferrari mechanics publicly hanging with their former (divisive & incompetent) TP, the same TP who adored Seb & Carlos but didn’t care for Leclerc.

And yet I’m insane for suggesting the mechanics on Leclerc’s side of the garage may not have his best interests in mind?

Where there’s smoke …

While he was a terrible TP, we have no idea what the personal relationship was like between him and the rest of the team members. I think it's a bit unfair to say anyone speaking to him must be conspiring against Ferrari. Leclerc himself was seen chatting with him a few months ago. Have you never had an incompetent boss you didn't get along with professionally, but you liked them as a person?

I still think Leclerc's mechanics are just bad. Not maliciously so... just not good at their jobs. The truth is likely more mundane than any of us are hoping for.
