Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm surprised to see their Monaco spec complex monkey gallery here, I would have thought such downforce would have been too dirty to use anywhere save Monaco or perhaps Singapore.

The shot of the brake duct above is the first clear pic we've had since China. I believe the lower multi element aspect of the duct is 4 or 5 elements? I see 3 in the forward pic and I believe two more in rear pics from Monaco.

I once read that these apertures are not directly producing meaningful downforce, but rather aide the rear wing in keeping the flow attached. This makes it possible to run a slightly more aggresive AoA.

Hülkenberg has said in an interview that he has the feeling that Ferrari and Renault have made big steps regarding the development of their engines which makes it harder for a team like Force India, even on a track like Canada that should suit them.

More power and/or better drivability at Ferrari/Renault could well be the reason for the other teams catching up. Actually, I'd be surprised if Mercedes was still as dominant come Abu Dhabi. Particularly Red Bull seem to be catching up fast. Having said that, I guess Canada isn't the most representative of tracks, so we'll see how it unfolds from there.

I agree but i think We have to see Until Silverstone to get the real idea about what really going on the Catching-up pace,
as the Aero and Engine Power Delivery / Drive-ability can make much more quicker

Everyone is chalking Mercedes dominance up to the PU, which makes a lot of sense, but what about FRICS? Merc spent two years gathering data on that system to get it tuned right for each track, no? Is anyone else running a hydraulically linked suspension? And if so, do they have the data that Merc has?

I don't doubt that Newey's design is probably the best at down-force, but without a PU to push it forward, that's a real handicap. I am wondering if FRICS is allowing Merc to better setup their aero for each track even if they don't have the best aero overall. After all, there are other Merc PU's on the grid, but they haven't been able to challenge the works team.

I don't know for other teams, but ted kravitz mentioned in monaco that nearly every team is running some sort of fric suspension now.
RB was the fastest car in 3rd sector in monaco which is basically just a bunch of slow corner kerb hopping stuff, which most likely wouldn't be possible without a sophisticated fric system.

You're going to need to point out these new VG's to me. That wing is exactly the same.

The complete gearing in the W05, calculated from telemetry as shown in online
long enough for 480km/h at 15000rpm, or for 360km/h at 11250rpm
