Some work to do to switch on the tyres for quali yes. But this is about putting heat cycle through the tyres to maximise the longevity of the tyre… Charles came out just in front of Perez and Alonso and needed to push straight away to keep ahead which compromised his laps to put the correct heat cycle through the tyres.CouncilorIrissa wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 07:37Lots of work to do, the way the car warms up its tyre seems finicky.dialtone wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 07:32The tire warmup was not optimal for SAI in the last stint, while LEC had a normal warmup for 3 laps before pushing which allowed him to place a good lap at the end on 6 laps older tires.CouncilorIrissa wrote: ↑24 Mar 2024, 07:28Also, the pace compared to McLaren later in the race was concering.
Not gapping them by 20 seconds is not acceptable.
Pace differential was there but tire warmup was critical, LEC didn't do it in the 2nd stint and his 2nd was bungled, SAI didn't in the 3rd. Otherwise they had pace differential from Merc enough to have similar pace on 6 laps older tires.
Nothing Finicky about this.
