They really should be able to do better to prevent these things. Are the bikes currently configured to have flag conditions displayed on the dash? There should be enough tech now that if a bike goes down, it can automatically sense and send a yellow flag signal to other riders. Maybe it's too difficult to achieve and riders are just too focused and would miss it, but worth a try surely.

I think what you said is a wonderfull idea. If they can do a sensor to see if bike wheels touch green place they can do a system that if a bike fell down and stays on track a signal can immidiately send riders that bike will start braking in a few second. Algorithm for this can be improved. For example it can choose if brake in prespecified time or not by looking bike leaning angle at the moment.

Last years crash with Morbidelli and I can't remember who it was in 1st race at Red Bull Ring, that was really track specific. For the second race a week later they have extended the barriers to prevent bikes that crash at T2 to cut through the T3 hairpin.

This crash with Pedrosa and Savadori really has nothing to do with how the track is. Just a few weeks ago a kid was killed in motorcycle race at Aragon. Same thing happened like here, though his crash was highside rather than lowside that Pedrosa had. Competitor that was in a group behind didn't see him and collected the rider who later died. Same thing happened at Mugello this year in Moto3 qualifying. Those things sadly happen in motorcycle racing and when you have a very competitive and bunched up field there is always a possibility that someone will be bunched up in a group and come unsighted to the crash site.

They do have it possible for either team or race control to communicate with riders via text messages displayed on their dashboard. That has been the case for few years now. Usually it is used to let them know that they have been given track limits warning, or that they have penalty etc. Teams usually instruct their riders when their main opponent crashes/retires, which power mapping to use etc.

Although last year on few weekends (or was it in season testing, I am not sure) they had tested earphone system where race control could communicate via audio messages to riders (but riders wouldn't be able to talk back). Apparently they want it introduced within next few seasons with possibility of adding two-way communication at a later time. But they are really cautious about it because intention is for race control to be able to inform riders and not for their teams to coach them etc.

Yamaha has suspended Maverick Vinales and have withdrawn his entry from Austrian GP this weekend. They will not replace him so only Quartararo will be riding for factory team. Their analyeof telemetry data from last weekends race have shown that problems that Vinales had were caused by unexplained improper operation of the bike by the rider which could have caused massive damage to the engine amd pose a risk to rider and competitors. They still haven't made any decision for future races.

that seems very weird. It is like either Viñales doesn't want to ride there any more or vice versa.
If there is a damaged engine suspected, why wouldn't they just replace it? Or if they don't have one, which I doubt, they could just use the spare bike.

Apparently, some photographers and media people from around the track have said that in last few laps before he retired he was just revving the sh*t out of the bike throughout the lap. Also I've read somewhere that when he started it team sent him a communication calling him to enter the pits which he disobeyed for few more laps and then came in. After the race he was heard saying that he was getting erroneous "pit in" messages because of electronics glitch.


As to why, apparently he was very unhappy with stalling before the re-start and with pace in second race so he decided to take it out on the bike. Although what is happening out of the sight we can only guess. But this is not his first time this season, he also lashed out on the team at a German GP where he didn't want to ride because he was far off the pace but team insisted that he rides because if nothing else he can at least gather some data to which he replied that he is not a test rider and that test riders are for data gathering.

This is too weird to be true sincerely. Anyone knows telemetry will show any unproper bike operation, so it would be utterly stupid by Viñales. Or they are into an internal battle wich is worse than we see, but in that scenario it would also be utterly stupid from Viñales to provide the team some real reason to suspend him, so...

a) this is false
b) this is true and Viñales is stupid

c) Vinales did or said something Yamaha really didn't like, they found something they can use against him in regards to his duties as written in the contract and they got rid of him.

I actually hope he won't be on that bike anymore this season. He is completely not motivated, Yamaha has obviously moved on after they came out with a statement that he will be ending the contract a year early and the sooner they part ways the better.

The layout of the track will be changed. The focus will be on the third corner, which will be changed. A chicane will be placed halfway the straight in order to slow down the speed. This should prevent life threatening accidents like the one last year.
