So COL was faster in sprint Q but ALB was faster in main qualifying.

Still need a bigger sample size but the error Vowels made was not trying out COL sooner. It probably had something to do with Sargeants money.

Im still not sold on all of these mid teir F2 prospects who come out of the gate hot in F1 cars. Zhou did something similar.

Can I just say, I love the Williams with the yellow engine cover!!!

For 2025, I want Williams with the yellow engine cover and McLaren with the chrome as their main livery!!
If I come across as blunt, I apologise, it's my ASD. Sometimes, like an F1 car aqua-planing, it gets out of my control.

Realistically how good do you guys think Colapinto will end up being?

It seems nearly certain he will be on the grid in 2026 if he doesn't find a seat for 2025. He has adapted to F1 insanely quickly and did amazing from day 1. Do you think that is because he has a high ceiling or because he is quick to adapt, but has a fairly low ceiling?

He's clearly miles ahead of Sargeant and Latifi. I'm thinking he will end up being good enough to comfortably stay on the grid at least.

So did Vettel and Alonso.

I don't necessarily think a mid-tier F2 driver coming into F1 and performing amazing immediately means they will be world champion material, but I don't think you should discount the possibility immediately either. Mid-tier junior drivers have proven themselves to be top tier F1 drivers several times, just like top prospects have failed to live up to the expectations set by their junior careers. Hülkenberg comes to mind as someone who was amazing in GP2, but couldn't live up to the hype in F1.

Now that is not to say I believe Colapinto or Bearman or Lawson will end up being as good as Alonso or Vettel. I just don't think a junior career that is only "broadly good" necessarily means they won't be great in F1.

Your quicker drivers have usually won an F2 or F3 equivalent series as a junior or at least finished on podium position. His junior career shows me he's probably closer to Albon on pure pace than say a Piastri who blitzed the junior categories.

That's enough to get a spot on the grid, but who knows how he'll evolve as a driver. Mentally, it looks like can handle the pressure of being in F1 and being on pace with a veteran driver. Good start.

Colapinto never competed for a top team in the feeder series. Like many others, he did not have the money to buy a seat in a top team like Prema or ART. No driver who debuted for a mid-level team won his debut season in F2 or F3.

It is a mistake to not take into account the context and strength of the teams he competed for. This applies not only to Colapinto, but to anyone. I get quite upset when I see arguments like "someone isn't good because he didn't win in their first season" when this guy debuted for an average team like MP, VAR(F3), Charouz, etc... Unfortunately this is something that many Team Principals don't pay attention to.

I didn't say anything about winning in his first season. I said quicker drivers "usually" have won or podium'd a junior series before reaching F1. Its not a prerequisite to pace in F1.

That's one Logan for Colapinto. The car broke loose and he never fully let off to gather it.

He has the rookie excuse, but still... another two big crashes this weekend for the team. There can't be much budget/parts left for the season?

Does someone know what is their billing is at the moment ? I think they may have the highest tally since budget cap introduction.

How about now, Mr. Vowles, and his best drivers on the grid for 2025? Sainz is consistently poor in the wet.

According to that we have Albon with $3,7 mill, Logan on $3 mill and Colapinto on $800k approximate, so $7,5 million or so. 😯

Sainz hasn't had the BIG wrecks like Perez, Logan and Albon. Even in Baku, Perez seemed to come off worse.

The McLaren boys have done well though. Sign of an easier or more stable car than the Williams?
