Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Also remarkable that Mercedes do not have the de rigour rear tail skirts as found on Most front running teams cars.
can you describe it? I'm a layman, I never heard of this rear tail "skirts" before?
I think we are talking about those black fins on the bottom of the endplate.

Is it they are slow in reaction or do they only adopt things they understand and have proof of working ..
I think they will have looked at what others are doing. But of course, you can only put it on the car if it won't negate the performance.

In general how does the brake cooling flow exhaust from the hub assembly?

I think we can see part of the DDRS duct in these pictures.

Interesting the exposed pipe seems the same diameter as the rear pipes around the side of the engine I posted earlier, another sign the system isn't switched in my opinion.

I still believe that the fact there are 2 individual airflows going from rear to the front (I presume with no left-right crossover) is either packaging requirements or more interestingly the system actually works like this, i.e. different stalling speeds on each side of the car to aid yaw or traction etc.

I doubt the slot is really a slot, but what would be the use for the small extra hole?

Small vertical fin, lines up with the barge boards I think

Because there's a 99.9999% chance every team will use one. Teams need the extra downforce at Monaco. Before this season with all the lost downforce due to the Regs, the Monkey Seat was almost exclusive to Monaco.

I would say that what you think is a slot is just the remnant of a fillet layer where the wing strut bonds to the nose.

Great picture! You can see two pipes in there, the big diameter hole which seems to be the one running from back to the front and then at the very front end of where the pylon was there is a smaller tube from what I think is fed by the nose hole.
