Suspension will likely be as stiff as possible to allow the cars to run as low as possible given they’re ground effect cars.

Hi there new to this board. No aero expertise but an F1 fan for years.

That area of the nose which looks sculpted into the wing I believe is another carbon cover no? There is an edge on the right which isn’t bonded properly to the wing. I think MC are hiding the true wing/nose structure.

It's definitely not as pretty as the Aston Martin solution, but I don't think anything is being hidden behind this, just a little bit of carbon for a smoother transition in the wing

Everything I have read in the last 48 hours indicates the opposite. These cars are going to handle like go-karts and be incredibly stiff with no ability to ride the kerbs. Daniel has been talking about the cars giving drivers headaches.

I wonder if that plays into Newey's hands given his history of making extremely stiff cars for Mclaren and Red Bull
Ricciardo said he hopes that the cars aren't that bad, he didn't say that they are

They're going to be stiffer, the aero platform is more sensitive and they've taken away a lot of the tools that allowed them to run softer with hydraulic/interlink effects to stabilise the platform.

HUGE heat outlets, compare that with Aston och Haas. Mclaren is a basic 2021 concept car. I wonder if their aero concept is right one. Lets hope so…

It’s far from basic, it’s a alternative packaging solution, and that alternative approach consist of this larger rear outlet. All three cars we’ve have seen so far would have pretty similar volumes, just distributed differently. And all three will require compromises, the Aston requires cooling vents along the body surface in exchange for a tighter rear and undercut, while the haas (which is a early developmental render) has beefier side-pods and may still have gills.

I feel that this will lead to most close duels on track ending in (rear grip limited) spins... I hope I'm wrong!😒

Regarding rear suspension integration, it wont be that hard to put the suspension elements inside the 'bell housing' IMO. This old Bar Honda Gbox has done it, and only the heave damper stayed outside.

Yes the turbine will occupy a big part of that space. But take a look at this 2014 Lotus gearbox. It's bell housing had to host a full turbo, not just a turbine, but still, the suspension elements (missing here) sat behind the turbine and exhaust pipes.

The split turbo obviously needs a smaller recess in the bell housing, so the inboard suspensions should have more space :)
Do you have the image of the lotus gearbox. Your post had the same image twice :)

At the rear yes, but the Aston has the outlets in the middle. The McLaren is more controlled but the aston allows the coke to be tiny at the rear.

The rear diffuser is covered up.

Gotta say, love the McLaren Logo on the back of the rear wing. Wish Ferrari did the same with their iconic Ferrari text Logo.

To control spending IMho.
To control tyre wake, you could give the teams a regulation on wheel covers, but of course it will turn into a spending spree to find the best performance. The same for the wheels. 18 inches is big and presents a vast amount of space for all manner of complex channels and structures for aero, brakes an temperature controls. Again another spending spree.

Cost shouldn't be an issue with the cost cap
