It's interesting that Mclaren with DRS, are the same as Aston with no DRS. If it continues like this, they won't be able to overtake anyone.

Still a draggy piece of wood but hopefully with new wind tunnel the team can improve the aero efficiency and reduce drag.

Is there finally some light at the end of that dark tunnel?

Good performances by the Mclaren team. It sounds like things are working as expected and its been a long while since they could say it.

I don't think so. I think he's just saying that he left the pitlane a good 30s after all the other cars so he was out alone on track with no slipstream for his final lap

Agreed. This car now looks promising. Most other teams have yet to bring big updates so we can only hope we keep them coming quicker and that they offer us more laptime reduction.

But if we really could have been on for a P4 then that is one hell of an improvement given the nature of our track and the nature of our barn door downforce issues.

Alpine had an official "upgrade" for this race, so relative to where Mclaren were hoping to be at the beginning of the season, they might have attained it.

It's just one competitor though, we need to compare ourselves to AM and Mercedes to move forward, then look at RB and Ferrari in the distant future.

That said, the Apline upgrade was a floor that was also supposed to offer a lot of performance so ours seemed to have worked better out of the box. At this track we are no slower than 5th Fastest and Lando would have us believe 3rd fastest if a P4 was possible. I'll believe that when I see it but it is nice to know there was time on the table.

Tomorrow we will see if they can right those wrongs.

I think AMR and Mercedes will go out of reach. AMR had the DRS problem today and still haven't brought much. Merc have an overhaul planned which is probably similar in magnitude to what McLaren have just done.

realistically I think they can consolidate their position fighting Alpine or just ahead. It's a long way to go to the top 4.

Apologies, I'd editited when you were posting, but we are in agreement about the other teams, for now, but they are the targets I think, not Alpine.
