Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

IMHO it's very unlikely that this meager amount of air is used to directly cool the engine. There are huge water and oil coolers in the sidepods for this exact job. An air inlet in that region would typically be for KERS cooling. An actual photo of this inlet would be nice.

edit: Found a good photo from Monaco!

It's "simply" an inlet in a pretty neat (low drag/turbulance) position. Look at the lower end of the splitter, almost where it touches the tea-tray.

Lotus have a little hole on the front of the vertical splitter for this.

Not sure if they're getting rid of the cascade for Canada or just haven't fitted it yet. I think the cascade helps with drag anyway to direct flow from the front wheel so it seems an odd place to try and remove some DF.

Also, splitter:

In the picture of the rear of the car, is that a monkey seat? ( in line with mechanics left leg) Is that picture from Monaco or this weekends race? I would've thought the monkey seat was for Monaco only. If that's what it is.

What's different?
Square-ish holes on the drums as opposed to "Arched"

Could be the view angle, doesn't it?

Haha, if that's the view angle, I'll eat my own butt cheeks.

@beelsebob @The_Truth: Look at three openings atop of the brake drums covering upright assembly, these holes are wider in Montreal and also arched outboard. It's obvious from the pictures...

Yep indeed, no idea how my eyes didn't see the first time... No idea how The_Truth thinks it's the camera angle.
