What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if getting in and out of the track takes less time than it does at Silverstone.

According to GP Week it took four hours to get from the into Silverstone...The park and ride buses were slogged down with auto traffic and wasn't any better..I sure won't want to hear gripping about it at Austin.

Didn't the Austin mayor get away from the track by chopper, including sheriff, fireperson and all?

CotA has some new construction photos up on their website:

I don't see anything particularly dramatic - just everything a bit further along and the grass a little greener (at least where it's been planted).

We do have at least one gravel trap now...

Yeah, I don't think the Pirellis would hold up more than a lap as it is. I'm sure the final layers will be a special mix.

I'm certain Pirelli will bring some moonshine-blend for this particular race, wonder what they will spray on the podium btw?

Damn right it's Lone Star. And the National Anthem will be played by Asleep At The Wheel.

Looking at my prospective drive, I'd have to say it's closer to tequila country than shine country.

If drag racing is going to happen on the main straight we will know if the track is built using a concrete slab under the asphalt. The slab has enough steel reinforcement to be built as one unit, without traverse joints for thermal expansion. The surface of the concrete is aligned with laser beams to provide a flat surface. The difference in height among any two patches of the track is less than the thickness of a piece of paper.
