Red Bull RB13 TAG Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

In this picture it doesnt even look that much. The diffuser is bigger this year but if you look at the plank it isnt that impressive.

I am not trying to say that RB runs no rake, they do, massive at low speeds. But in this picture it looks normal

No i think they are ultimately running less rake than ferrari. But the ferrari doesn't look like it's ass is bottoming out with the drs open.

Disagree, that looks like an insane amount of rake.

What's the reason that RB would have the rear pull-rod exposed compared to Merc or McLaren, who feed it into the cooling tunnel?

Down to the first pull rod red bull had it like that. It is just their design philosophy. The RB5 had dampers under the gearbox. I think they relocated those since but Newey still prefers the pull rods like that.

Taped over the creases in bodywork.

The philosophy of the front wing is completely different this year. I feel like they changed where they are sending the Y250, using it more to create a much larger gradient under the floor, than before. The way the lowest inner element flips up at the tip instead of curling down towards the neutral section is unlike what we saw last year. The cutout behind the sidepod flow conditioner. The lack of 2008 era aero appendages, leads me to believe that the DF is coming from under the floor, and the top the surfaces that would induce more drag are kept to a minimum. Im not sure but theres something quietly menacing about this car perceived simplicity..

Gearbox position. James Key mentioned it in one of his recent interviews. STR12 does have nearly identical pull rod arrangement because TR does use same gearbox as RBR in 2017.

AFAIK STR only uses RBR internals. The casing is STR

Correct, but doesn't change the essence of my statement.
Afair James mentioned that the RBR gearbox internals allow for more freedom in placement.

Found it: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 27234.html
Dank des neuen Getriebes konnten wir auch die Hinterradaufhängung so anordnen, wie wir wollten. Da waren wir letztes Jahr von der Geometrie eingeschränkt. Man sieht an der langen Zugstrebe den Unterschied zu früher.
Translation:
Thanks to the new gearbox, we were able to rearrange the rear suspension as well. Because last year we were constrained by geometry. The long pull rod shows the difference to former version.
To sum it up:
Thanks to the RBR gearbox internals they where able to redesign the rear suspension for better geometry and the long pull rod is a result of this.
