They say it wasn't the car though... it was the driver...

No wonder Di Grassi was mad! Another technical mistake from Virgin.

Give them time, they're learning just now.

if it don´t go as expected ,just blame the car or the engineeer ruining the setup...
It is the worst you could possibly do as a development driver to throw the car into the barrier because you did not read the cars reactions and limits properly .
I always thought a F1 driver was capable of keeping the thing on the black at not quite 100% of effort...or did he do qualy attempts already?
if i were Booth or Wirth ,di Grassi would sit out the next two days and would only get back in after completing the programme worked throu.
Imagine he destroyed the tub and Virgin had to go to bahrain with no testing anymore and a rush to build a new tub...thats the sort of mishap ruining your season before it even started...Nick wirth went through this sort of dramas in his first F1 venture with simtek already so he knows what you cannot afford.(the simtek project surely did not die because of uncompetitive machinery).
as Timo has not yet made it to the track again at 11o´clock one can say that off removed a big chunk off precious testing time ,so no more performance optimisation
before the season opener ,only reliability programme?

I really want Virgin to do better, but Williams with the same engine is about 5 seconds faster. Assuming Williams did the fast lap going in qualifying mode and on fumes only, that means Virgin should have something like 150kg more fuel on it!

I think they have a lot of catching up to do.

If anyone expected the new teams to go quick instantly was obviously expecting too much.

I want to see them make a good fist of it and make progress to the back of the established pack.

I think the Virgin is the new Redbull, fast but fragile, they have speed but can't unlock it due to the reliability issues. The Lotus is solid...but won't go quick till at least Barca...but the Dallara could spring the surprise, it's not like Dallara don't know how to build a single seater and they've had longer than Lotus to get it together. And obvioously the TF110, StefanGP, whatever car will be quick, should be straight into the middle of the pack IMO...

obviously noone could expect them to be in front of Sauber or williams that is impossible. These teams still live from what they have amassed in recent years and they will grdually shrink down to virgin size to meet the cost cap.so the newbies have to hold out and survive the first two years and they will rise stellar as they are experienced in something the big outfits still have to learn in the years to follow ...a shrinking process very hard and hurtful.

Not expecting them to run as fast as Williams, of course.. That was just to show the difference.. Assuming they had about 100liters of fuel and the tires were a little worn (costing about 1sec/lap), that would put them about 2 seconds per lap behind Williams. That's not too bad for a brand new car that ran less than anyone due to lack of wings.

I trust Wirth to catch up, though. I bet they won't be further than 1sec/lap behind any of the Cosworth cars by the time they return back to Europe. Of course, this assumes that Williams will continue their well known trend of not being able to develop the car much during the season.

that top wishbone has an incredibly narrow base on the monocoque ...
