The issue is that if Leclerc has the usual 2-3 tenths on Sainz at Suzuka, Ferrari qualifies in third ahead of Mclaren and it would a completely different scenario.
It’s the second time in a row their faster driver takes himself the blame for not extracting the best from the tyres on one lap.
It can be due to his engineers or to himself, this is the fact.
Leclerc’s reputation is going to suffer heavily if this continues, as in F1 you are only good as your last race.
2-3 tenths isn’t the usual at Suzuka…

Ferrari has miscalculated the setup for qualification...doubts were raised in the factory when the race simulation looked too gud on p2. Race simulation was showing 0.5 /0.6 s seconds ahead of redbull .ferrari continued with the same setup after multiple iterations and assuming will qualify 0.2 to 0.3 s below to redbull ( second row lockout )and catchup during the race...it has kind of slightly back fired and as the tires had no bite on asphalt lead to poor qualy...expect better race pace during the race but it is going to be very difficult to overtake due to one drs zone...lot in hands of race strategy team...p3 and p4 is still possible

Track temps are much higher than at any time over the rest of the weekend. Surely that will exasperate any tyre wear issues. If Ferrari were truly able to preserve the tyres better (yet to be confirmed) then this will strengthen their position relative to the rest.

It’s hot in tokyo as well and very sunny right now. Back to rain tomorrow and tuesday. Just got sunny for the race.

Since the excellent tire wear, Ferrari needs to try and start on Hard now and get through the whole race. Very risky but with great risk comes great reward. Or do the H-H if the deg gets too much

So do we switch to softs? Or stay on mediums

Definitely not softs. Thought they might consider H-M-M (returning to the start tyre towards the end) but I honestly think they’ll just stick with the same tyre. They did 3 corners at racing speed.

They put new meds on Charles car, so I assume he’ll go M-H-M and put his race start tyre on at the end (assumption)

Yeah we're just slow.

No reason to be watching Suzuka as usual. Why is there no DRS zone after Spoon?

FP race pace looks sort of hoax now, Lec off by 2 sec each lap tugged behind Piastri,

Charles trying a 1 stop? Otherwise why would they extend him beyond both Sainz and Piastri?

If they do shoot for a 1 stopper, to do it with M-H is pretty crazy, particularly considering where Charles is relative to the mercs who are on the theoretically more durable tyre.

Charles, don't tell me you are going to gain a one stopper here...
