Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The geometry is actually not so extreme. Its a normal rear axle pull rod rotated about 30deg. Thanks to JT for pointing that out to me initially.

Scarbs, Ive used a picture of yours. Let me know if thats not ok.
bhallg2k wrote:With the move to pull rods, would it make any sense to link the front suspension?

How is camber effected by pull rods?
The answer to both of your questions is that the pull rod changes virtually nothing from a pure suspension point of view. Save for some slightly different compliances, the kinematics of a pull rod are the same as a push rod.

But forces applied on the tyres & suspension aren't rotated by 30°..

Why have Ferrari changed the air intake above the head? I mean the 2009 & 2010 & 2011 ferrari´s were round intakes but know it´s a bit like Mercedes W01 intake, rectangular.

No, you are right, the forces are still acting from a ground refrence, but the force characteristics of a double wishbone suspension have very little to do with the the pull/push rod. The upper and lower wishbone angles determine how much contact patch force goes into the push/pull rod.

In anycase, what I was demonstrating was that kinematically, the motion ratio is not as bad as one might think when they see a horizontal pull rod.

push or pull rod should not effect camber control much.

Everyone seems to be convinced that this is a pull rod, but to date i never seen a pull rod that is so bulky. Why should a tensile member be so large? there is also no point in making the aero cladding so big

Love the way the camera pods are mounted in the FIA control zone. They have made a mockery by using it to create downforce rather than the intended lift. They could have made it even better by making the wing mounts wider like i the jordan and benneton of the early 2000s Image

how would you make a push rod work in that geometry? Its probably just faired for earo.

it's over designed because of the shallow angle and the chance that it can take a side hit during racing methinks.

Those pictures of the front are reveling one thing no visible otherwise, there is a hole in the floor just at the bottom of the sidepods, if somebody can highlight it, this would explain the story about the work they did on the floor.
