Regardless of the end result, the performance has been great this weekend on a track which Mercedes deemed to suit their car. There has been a massive step from Red Bull Honda since France. Also welcome back to the 2018 Pierre Gasly, much better than the early 2019 version. It seems the upgrades have stabilized the car and made him more comfortable.

Red Bull - Honda now seems ok on the straights...even in Quali they were really close with Max! They are getting there i believe. Also happy for Gasly...this result should up his confidence for the remainder of the season! He is a great driver and he proved last year in the Toro Rosso!!

Great drive by both Max & Gasly. They were slightly quicker than both Ferrari and much closer to Mercedes now. If Max had retained his lead over Leclerc post first pit stop he could have taken 2nd place for sure.

Will be interesting to see if they end up being on par with Mercedes post summer break

Gasly was just better his previous performance which is good at all. Because he must be stay front of Ferrari.
I am surprised why Verstappen pitted with leclerc with medium tyres. They have to go a few laps more I think.

Was thinking the same thing, they should have kept him out, he could have extended his stint and have better tyers for the end. It would have obviously also worked out well with the safety car. It was risky to do the overtake in the pits. Even though it worked out in the pits I think they had more to gain by staying out even without the safety car.

The collision spun Verstappen’s Red Bull around, which led to the RB15 being launched airborne off the sausage kerb on the inside of the corner. Verstappen, who ended up finishing nine seconds off the podium, said it was “a bit of a surprise” that he hadn’t retired on the spot. “The power steering more or less failed so it was quite a hard workout for me out there, the seat popped up so it was moving around a lot,” he explained. “The diffuser was broken, the floor was broken, underneath I could see parts falling off. Was not great. “The car was not what it should've been, [so I’m] still happy to be fifth.”
Yet somehow still he was closing in on Gasly initially :P
Near the end they both probably turned the engine down.

If we recap all that happened till now. Honda delivered. Engine is a little short on max power, but equal or better on race trim. Aero is ok. Car is gentle on tyres. Reliability is perfect. As promised we expect big engine upgrade and qually deficit will disappear and egine will be equal or better that Ferrari and Mercedes. And all this in half a season partnership. Alot of potential around cooling...We have to let Mercs to enjoy flawless wins only few more races. After that......

what a frustrating race today  . Max had the speed to climb to the position 2.
My conclusions form this race :
1- Drivers : great drive from both drivers especially Max. He is a lot mature now. =D>
2- Engine : after Austrian grand peoples expected a change of the engine or a turn down. Not at all, we have seen a great engine with good speed even ahead of a ferrari with DRS. =D> =D>
3- Car : It becomes the best car on the field again. =D>
4- Strategy : bad strategy today. good move to pit Gasly first, and then they should extends Max. If they did that max would be behind Hamilton after the SC. :?:
5- Ferrari : a frustrated team with a raged driver, Leclerc since Austria droves like he droves in Monaco.
6- Mercedes : not far ahead.

An updated Honda engine equal to current Mercedes level is now ready and will be introduced in any time.
Looking forward to the next race. [-o<

This sums it up quite well, thanks.

Patience with Gasly looks also well spent. Only some more agression from him and he'll keep Lec behind

What impressed me most, was Gasly holding up Leclerc without having DRS or a tow. The Ferrari was close, but the top speed of the RB15 was enough to keep him behind. That never happened before, and Vs the strongest car on the straights. Aero plays a role with it, for sure. But I think Honda is on the game with the top PU's right now =D> =D>

Just watched a few onboards again. While Max was behind Vettel and after upping his batteries GP said that boost and overtake was available. Whats the difference between boost and overtake?

Boost is maybe more MGU-H related whereas overtake is probably MGU-K

Well if you want a laugh, head on over to the Renault thread. They are still sitting there bringing up engine pecking order and claiming Renault are top 2 with Honda a clear last... They must be watching some other dimension season, I'm sure they don't blow up in that one either.

Great race from both of them. Max was fast here, clearly second fastest which is a fantastic result at a relatively unfavourable track, real shame about the accident, he was on for 2nd, 3rd at least. Good to see Gasly in the fight for a majority of the race as well, definitely saw an improved drive from him this weekend. Package looks strong and will only get significantly stronger. Looking forward to the next races!
