Its the new wings that are doing it, isn't it?

FIA have decided that the flex that is happening now isn't an issue, even though in previous years they have acted on that stuff immediately.

New wings give balance to Mclaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and hence the massive leap in performance.
And it might have pulled the basis from under how Redbull developed their car. They sacrificed suspension flexibility to be able to run lower and now you can suddenly have downforce in the corners again with very little drag on the straights with the FW flex.

on German Sky they did a pre-session interview today, where he said the same as in his other interviews during the week (sprint weekend difficult, McLaren strong, Ricciardo crap).

Servus TV didn't have him either, as far as I can see.

1.3 seconds between Max and Sergio in Austria? There's got to be some big mistake from Sergio right?

lap preparation for sure, Perez had to go very fast not to take the flag

Now I see that he was behind an Alpine, the gap was close whole lap so he must've lost the time from there

anyway, encouraging performance, especially in sector 3, as I suspected the riding on those kerbs is not bad

feel that McLaren underperformed though, let's see tomorrow

Probably they did. Since Max also had a suboptimal final lap. Probably another half a tenth in it.

Also in the sprint there is no advantage for RB of being full fuel at any point. So a clean start and maybe Lando not having a clean start maybe is required. But a p2 in the sprint is fine - 1 point loss if McLaren have the better car in lower fuel

Car is really good this weekend. There was more in that for max and already the gap to Merc/Ferrari was 3-4 tenths.

Amazing job from the team to have it purring after one free practice.

Max says the car is in good spot, that's even better news than this quite useless pole, hopefully they can keep the momentum through the weekend and after parc fermé is re opened

Yeah good car balance usually means they won't have issues in the race. Touch wood

There was still Austria '22 when max was happy with the balance and they shredded tyres but other than that...

Marko was interviewed on Servus TV after SQ:

- FP1 was a (oil pressure-) sensor issue, which switched off when Verstappen went off track. A re-activation fixed it.
- The car was good from the start today, with no balance issues at all. Perez was blocked by Ocon unfortunately, but it's been a good start.
- It seems to be getting hotter, though. In the past this was good for Red Bull, but it doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
