Probably correct, but the mechanical tyre issues required (in Renault's case) a shift in c.g. position of at least 7 percent. I venture to suggest that this and the consequent aero changes were major compared with the tyre profile change.

The 2011's have a more gradual curve at the end of the "tread", the 2012's have a sharper transition from "tread" to "sidewall"

It's a very very subtle difference. I doubt it'll be even anything to see/talk about on the track

I can't see any difference too. Maybe Pirelli made the tyre squarer when looking from the side, not the front. Just to make the show better...

Measure the shadows being cast on the surface. One is about 15% bigger than the other. I am assuming equal inflation pressures.

Considering the backdrops; we have to assume very unequal lighting though.

Interesting.. I get how pressure and temperature is recorded but how is tyre wear recorded?

Yeah that's what I thought too. Surely if you wanted to measure wear you'd have to measure how much tread you have left? I can sort of believe monitoring degradation; if Pirelli constantly monitor the tyre temperatures and sort of run their own live simulation; from which they work out deg; but wear? How?

If someone get acquainted with Hembery he will be able to ask him. :D
I think a sensor is applied on the valve of the tyre for knowing pressure and temperature but for the wear... No idea.
Since I've read the article I've been thinking about this solution.
Edit: Moreover this technology will be introduced in "normal" cars!

I don't think you'll even need that - Paul Hembery is very sociable and answers any questions you tweet him.

Yes but, in my opinion, he can't reveal how the system works, I think it's secret.
