i mean he himself said he wants the challenge of building a team up so if he jumps in a really quick w04 then that according to himself will be a failure.
Nah...I dont want to bash Lewis, but in previous statements from him, he always says that he helps design, or develop this and that for the car, so if the W04 is quick, he'd probably claim it being his input during the whole winter....lol
Ag Lewis is not that bad oakes. Its a brave desicion, very much like Michaels decision 2 decades ago to move from a championship car to a stuggling one and build up. I respect that. Lets see what he is really made of now.

It is very sad for me to see him leaving F1 at the end of this season. I'm looking forward to all the remaining races this season and enjoy watching him drive. The thing I have to admit is that he has made the right decision. He has shown what he is capable of, and the car/team are to blame for his results. Where else could he choose to go for another season? It would be a big risk again, you know.

Well this is not the expected news.
I watched fd1 since 1980 (I was just about in school at the time) and remember vivid moments of F1. Gilles Villeneuves crach, Alain Prost losing the title at the SA grandPrix, Prost winnig it in 1985, and 1986, the battles with Senna in 88, the acrimony of 1989 and 1990 and then the explosion onto the scheme of the big smiling German kid from Kerpen. Man it was a brilliant debut and then Mercede's pulled him from Jordan and created a lot of bad press around this kid.

His years at Benetton filled with controversy thanks to his big desire to win and his rivals complete lack of character to deal with it.
Between Prost, Senna and Michael Schumacher they've given some of the best Sunday afternoons I can remember, even when they weren't winning.

Schumacher, legend. nuff said.

exactly none (except Ferrari) can guarantee a competitive car for him next year (Sauber wont be the same they lose a lot of money after Sergio decision.) and let's be honest nobody at Ferrari (LDM) want him back . They have Alonso a great driver and great name in this sport but with Michael around situation can change in term of publicity and maybe performance. For his career is a good decision but for us maybe it should be good if next year W04 not perform but should be incredible bad if w04 will perform because Michael deserve to be in that car.

Well, it's time to look for a suitable alternative for me I guess, as he was the main reason to watch the races in my book.

Just hope he says fair well with some good shows in the final races...

I definitely very-very sad. I know there are 50-50% that he will carry on or hang on his helmet for good.

Of course I could be too much angry because of Mercedes and how they served him this year. I mean the lot of technical retirements. Despite these things, I'm happy they gave him the chance to race in Formula-1 for the last three years. All in all, it was a good fun, I hope Michael feels the same.

I think the last two years send him finally to retirement, especially how this year developed. The retirements, the incompetent developments and all these stuff. He was not sure if he want to carry on next year, because the team doesn't give him confidence. That is very sad.

If Mercedes will be a good contender next year, this decision will be even harder to accept. Only for that reason, I wish another terrible season for Merc and from 2014 have a go for the constructor titles.

I wish for Michael the very best for the rest of his life! Thank you Michael and good luck for the last 6 races and at least a win.

P.S.: With today's announcements it is very likely we will see him at least one more time on the podium, or that Mercedes suddenly will be very confident in one of the races, you may take my word for it.

I have the same bitter felling as Monza 2006 , :| , i think Michael need to consider a last year of racing with Audi in World Endurance Championship , he is still fit for f1 , so lmp racing would not be problem in closed car ( less risky ) , plus he can fight for the win , and the calendar is perfect for him :

14 April Round 1 6 Hours of Silverstone GBR
04 May Round 2 WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps BEL
22/23 June Round 3 24 Heures du Mans FRA
31 August Round 4 6 Hours of Sao Paulo BRA
22 September Round 5 6 Hours of Austin * USA
20 October Round 6 6 Hours of Fuji JPN
10 November Round 7 6 Hours of Shanghai * CHN
30 November Round 8 6 Hours of Bahrain BAH
