Have a closer look on Peugeot: the floor behind front wheels, ducts on bonnet and diffuser, compering to Toyota it looks mighty. Rear wing looks familiar... LMP1 Peugeot 908'ish.

It is that wing.

From what I've read they pretty much took most of the 908's rear end and put it on this car.

Turbo ducting is in exact the same position as the 2011 908 HDI. A single oval shaped intake which splits into two ducts going down each side in the engine bay.

Also the diffuser shows much resemblance to the one on the 908 HDI(sans the legality structures), the center section gives it away(ACO regulated center section). Also rear suspension was pretty similar afaik and the rear wing is also ripped directly from the 908 HDI FAP.

Quite a cheap thing to do really, but it gives a good starting point for the return(is it 2013 only or the years after too?) and it saves costs drastically.

And in other news, also Toyota will take on Pikes Peak;

Based on the look of this it looks like the electric car they did a Nordschleife record with last year(which in turn is pretty much a modified Radical SR4, but just added on wings.

Now that the entirety of the road has been paved, why do the big players hunting the ultimate record continue to design cars that still look (albeit in an extreme fashion) like traditional rally cars?

Would it not be more appropriate to send something up the hill that looks more like a Formula or Prototype racer (like that Toyota/Radical) now that they don't have to contend with a rough, uneven, low grip surface?

Redbull brought one a few years ago. Not sure why it never came back it was pretty fast I think they spun out during the timed run. Image

What is your opinion on the Toyota guys? I have the feeling that with such a huge from wing the rear wing won't receive so much air to produce the wanted downforce. I like the central driving position and vents on the arches tho, looks very neat!

I don't see why it wouldn't have a shot at it. This car won last year. No huge aero package just a light car that works well and trouble for some of the big hitters.

I don't see that front wing having much of an effect on the rear wing.

Well, if you divert too much flow at the front, what is gonna reach the rear? You are comparing the Toyota with the Palatov which is not quite the same front wing wise but I see your point. However, basing it upon a result is not really right, considering nearly all opponents had problems last year. We do not have CFD results of the Toyota but maybe they are having a big diffuser to counteract the front wing.

And here is the Toyota. As you can see the Front Wing is much more forward/lower than in the drawing

Hadn't seen that before. Looks pretty damned cool! Probably never going to surface again though due to Red Bull's F1 tie in with Infinity.

It seems that the future is how I pondered - ie, LMP-ish looking cars, rather than WRC-on-steroids looking cars. Especially as so many seem to have adopted electric drive in their quest for the top step. Mitsubishi have just published details of their imiev Evo2 as well, so looking like a good selection come race day.
