The car in the picture is actually the 917-021, the white one from Joachim Großmann you already posted before. It was restaurated back to race spec. You can recognize it from the roof mirror and the turning signals in the headlights. There is also a nice book about that particular car:

If I get the story right, the 021 started out like this, under Antti Arnio Wihuri's team:

Leo Kinnunen also made a great pair with Pedro Rodriguez, seen here at Daytona.

I like how it says Hirn(Brain) above the driver, Rüssel(snout) at the front and Schwanz(tail) at the vertical fins.
Dear FIA, if you read this, please pm me for a redesign of the Technical Regulations to avoid finger nose shapes for 2016! :-)

Xpensive I got one for you! The painting of the 917/20 as it is today in the museum is not exactly the same as it was when they raced it in 1971 in Le Mans. What was changed?

thanks for pointing that out, I'm colourblind and thought that car was silver
This is Count Rossi's car chassis 917-030.

Difficult, image please?

An easier one, what changed in the 917-10 colorscheme from 1972 (Penske) to 73 (Rintzler)?

I can't show you pictures, but let me give you the hint, they changed one of the "pig parts" words...

As I of course don't want to keep the information with me and let you die stupid (i doubt some can say that), here is the answer:

On the original car, on the hood there was the word "Ripple", which is swabian accent for Rippe (Rib). After the crash and restoration, they changed it for the correct german word.

Thought that was this thread for, information you won't read in any 917 book.

Indeed, that's interesting! :)

Is there any characteristic for the 917s around btw? Like frontal area, drag coefficient, or else? :)
