enjoyed the qualifying.
this time winter testing seems to have acurately predicted where everybody is.
i am hoping that alonso may be a little heavier than kimi, i think he was running in practise carrying a lot of fuel.. hope so anyways.
Lewis was outstanding.

As for the camera questions, here is the reasons I heard about on speedtv forums.

Apparently, since this year, the FOM will broadcast in 16:9 format ( not sure if HD or not yet). However, for money reasons and technical reasons, the onboard camera's are still 4:3 and not yet 16:9. IN order to have 0 stretching, what they do is cut a little on the top and a little on the bottom.

During the FP1 and FP2, the cropping wasn't appropriate, and thus we were left with the driver's helmet and the cockpit, the camera pointing WAY downward.

However this was fixed for FP3 and for Qualif. Although we still miss a little part of the top, we can now at least see the road.

I dont understand such complications from the FOM and from the broadcast companies.... why dont they just show the race in full HD, and then show the onboard in 4:3 like they do in NASCAR....

Raikkonen Session 2 time 1:25.644 Session 3 time 1:26.072 Laps 11
Alonso Session 2 time 1:25.326 Session 3 time 1:26.493 10
Heidfeld Session 2 time 1:25.358 Session 3 time 1:26.556 11
Hamilton Session 2 time 1:25.577 Session 3 time 1:26.755 10
Kubica Sessuib 2 tune 1:25.882 Session 3 time 1:27.347 10

It looks like Alonso/Hamilton have a extra lap of fuel...but Does anybody know how much of a time is gained from each lap of fuel used. The difference between Heidfeld and Kubica is pretty dramatic for one lap difference?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

i was listening to the speed commentary, and i heard something a little bit silly:
Massa was going over the chicane before the long flat out left handed curve, and apparently the car jumped over the sides of the curve. According to speed, this damaged the gearbox! i've been watching f1 for 12 years, and this is the first time i hear something like this!! :D

How much fuel did Honda save for the environment by not qualifying to Q3?

Sato is the man of the hour....customer car or not, a brand new Williams or Spyker can't match the pace of a year old Honda(heavily revised one at that by SA), neither can the owner of the alleged intellectual property of Honda Racing.....

It'd be unfair to take this away from SA, since they are clearly one of the hardest working bunch and making their A-team look silly with one year of development work on them....

I second that! There's no way around it for the naysayers, it's either the car, or the driver, or both. Any way they try to twist it, there's no option but to give credit where credit is due. Super Aguri, Sato, and Davidson have done a great job thus far! :D

Well, I was glad I crawled out of my warm bed this night to go watch the qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix. Quite some surprises! First of all I'm a bit sad that Heikki didn't qualify better, I hope it will be better tomorrow for him. Lewis Hamilton...only one thing to say about him: =D> !
Alonso did very good as well, but not as good as Kimi. I didn't expect him up there so soon in the season.
Nick Heidfeld, I did expect there!! As I already wrote in my F1Technical 2007 season preview, he's one of the guys to keep an eye on this season! I hope he won't have problems during the race tomorrow!
Kubica has done a great job as well...but what about the Super Aguri's???
Who expected them so high up?? I think nobody did. I thought they were going to be better than Spyker and better than Toro Rosso, but 10th and 11th place..WOW!
I think that Toyota did a good job as well. Everybody was very negative about them during the pre-season test sessions and car launch, but there they are...both in the top 10.
I think that Fisico could have pushed a bit harder and could have been 3rd on the grid, but appearantly he had Sato in front of him during his final flying lap! It could have been better.

I hope for a very exciting race tomorrow and some overtaking!!

I knew that was going to bite them in the a**. I just never figured it'd be so soon.

A question for all of you. Is there a place where I could check to see who did how many laps in Q3? I can only follow Live Timing, and I didn't get a chance to "follow it" since the beginning?

Thanks

Yeah, I saw that. But they couldn't have done that in Q3. Webber, Trulli, and Sato - 23 laps each in 15 min? I think that that is for the number of laps done during Q1-Q3.

oh! i didn't realize that! u have a point :)
i think we can make the division.. if each lap took around 1.5 minutes, then they should have done around 10 laps.. including the in and out laps..
so they should endup with 9 plus or minus 2.
p.s. (i know it sounds really "KOKO", but that's the only way to figure it out :D)
