Re: Codemasters finally sort it out.

Post

Mods please merge this with the 2010 Codemasters thread. We don't need two.

I have never been so pumped up for somethin that doesnt have to do with me playing (american) football. I'm so pumped for this game i cant even describe it.
It looks amazing. One thing I'm hoping for is that it has an awesome career mode where you have to work your way through the ranks and join new teams, etc. I'm hoping the cars are pretty customizable too; i.e. new sponsors, designs, etc.

I just hope they've updated the car models, in some earlier trailers the cars looked to be in their launch spec aero.

You guys are killing me. At present I have issues that inhibit my ability to sim race, but soon.......

The only decent way to sim-race in Formula One is via rFactor.

Personally, my concept of sim fun is to race as realistic as possible, and in a closed league.

Many years ago I used to sim race in NASCAR, and in one league we followed the entire season. The real race took place on Sunday, the next Thursday our league followed. Although my skill level was lower and I was using totally crapola hardware, it was the most fun and rewarding sim racing I ever experienced. And lurking in the back of my mind is the concept to have something similar in place when the 2011 season begins.

With the level of technology available presently, it would be possible to create updates that follow changes in the real world. I guess it all depends on the licencing agreement Codemasters has with Bernie, and if Codemasters has the will.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

rFactor is now dated, but Two is coming soon and I'll be in line when it does.

FYI Dave, iRacing is releasing Spa in the coming weeks, and the 2009 Williams will also be released, as the most complete and realistically modeled F1 car to date, using actual telemetry and data from with full cooperation and disclosure from Williams, and unimpeded access to the car, which they dissect and weigh part by part.

That car will be released before season 4 so less then 12 weeks.

And FYI, iRacing is made by David Kraemmer, the brains behind the NASCAR series, widely regarded as one of the better sims out there.

Looks good but Im not convinced with some of the videos. Think its maybe just the AI is set too easy.

This one has made me look forward to it more. The guy finds it hard with the aids off at the end, just how it should be :)

Yea, this one video leaves a lot of questions, and is somehow suspicous. A one lap race, and the driver resets the difficulty level after the start? And really, from being third to suddenly passing both cars ahead at Pouhon doesn't happen in the real world. But what I really liked that even though it was raining and the driving view from the cockpit is one tough perspective, I was able to identify the track well, and pick up the braking points very easily. For me personally, that's what is important. As far as the driving aids and all that extra fluff, I can sort that out easily. Click ...off, click...off, click...off.

Thank you giblet, I didn't know David Kaemmer was involved in iRacing. For those who aren't aware who he is, he's a God in the sim community. I love the guy because he brought me GPL.

Codemasters have spent a lot of time on circuit evolution and wet weather dynamics. But they have not put bumps into the game. So the car won't bounce and react over bumps as it does in reality. Tracks appear to be universally flat and smooth. That is the only thing that disappoints me really. Rfactor may be dated but I think I prefer being able to drive any f1 car from about 20 different seasons past and present.

I just stepped over this video showing some setup adjustments for the new game.
Seems like there are not very much options possible. When you compare it to F1 2002, F1 Challenge or R-factor this is very lame.
Just for example it looks like you can't adjust left and right side independently.
For me this is very disappointing.
I get the feeling they messed the game up just like they did with Dirt.
Nice and shiny graphics but nothing behind.
