I think it says an awful lot about the moral standards within those companies that they use a flimsy excuse to renege on a previously agreed deal.

I for one, will not be doing any business with either ING or Mutua Madrilena in the future as a direct result of their actions.
Exactly. It's not about crashgate ING have said they will not renew their sponsorship as they desperately need to save money after the financial crisis. Same with RBS they are seeing out and honouring their contract...until this happened and gave them the means to stop early and save money.

I can't think of any more appropriate reason to cancel a sponsorship agreement than a partner acting completely immorally and to the detriment of all other parties involved in the sport - drivers, teams, fans etc. All large sponsorship agreements would have ethical/disrepute 'out' clauses which either party can trigger.
ING & MM got more publicity out of this than they could ever have imagined.

Not only the race victory, but then the inquiry into it.

I hope for your sanity you do not actually think people will automatically connect ING to cheating on account of Piquets actions?

Please.

Banks are one of the most immoral bunch of institutions on the planet.

If you are naive enough to be decieved by any PR image, go ahead, bury your head in the sand.

There is not a connection of Piquets actions to ING's morals.

Only the stupidest of PR people would ever make such an assertion.

It is an excuse to save money, nothing else.

No doubt some manager has got a healthy bonus on the back of getting the contract cancelled.

Absolutely true, there's no such thing as bad publicity! ING & Renault have got more publicity over Crashgate than they have all season.

ING Renault F1 are different to Renault, this saga wont really damage either party's image (Renault & ING) as everyone understands that it was just down to 3 stupid people not a company decision...

Yeah, a win-win-win situation for them, cause they also have even more publicity after walking out. Guess it was one of the reason why they waited so long to announce it. :D

Briatore reported as saying he will have his day, or words to that effect. It seems a little ironic he would say such a thing when he was allegedly responsible for the call, but also for Piquet jr being given the order of the boot when he had 'taken one fo the team'. Not exactly in the right place to start bitching about loyalty. I get the feeling Pat Symonds had very little to do with the call, other than being the next most senior person present.

Briatore will be starring in the remake of Car Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Remember there are always two...

I find it amusing that Symmonds and Briatore blame Piquet Jnr; the lad does not have the intellect to come up with a plan as devious as crashing out on lap 14. The plan smacks of Sith insight.

back to f1. ING gone, Renault's future has been up in the air for a while now. I can't see them staying on as a manufacturer. I think they will revert to engine supply, Williams and perhaps Red Bull or if dave Richards buys out Renault then the engine will be rebadged Aston Martin.

So what the heck was all that FOTA rival championship nonsense about? In the end the biggest protagonists are leaving; BMW, Renault, Toyota(?) Only Ferrari seem stable but uncertain of who their drivers will be...
After all this fiasco it all makes sense why Alonso wants to get out of dodge as quickly as 2010. He knew that crash gate would come out sooner or later. Kimi back to Mac..? or off to rally. My guess is Mac.

Speaking of ethics, been listening t Sir Jackie Stewart blabbing on the BBS coverage. The man is getting old and senile. He was ranting on about how britain has not had a champion since Damon Hill...WTF?? Is he blind stupid or racist?

I dont blame ING for leaving F1, would you really want your company to have anything to do with F1 after all the bad press its had in the last couple of years?
