I would love to see Hamilton teaming up with Ferrari again. Somehow, I feel that if Mclaren cant deliver a championship winning car by this season, he will start looking elsewhere.

Ferrari usually pick only proven champs for their no one slot and occasionally try out high rated young guns for the number two. They have Massa who is the perfect number two as long as he wants to be there. He is good enough to lead himself if the number one driver fails like Kimi in 2008. He is also fair and supports the leading driver if he is good enough. Based on that I do not see Ferrari make changes to Massa. One can have a look at Alonso.

The betting community still rates Alonso higher than almost anybody.

Image

In the relative car odds Red Bull are now the new standard with Ferrar going up to 1,16. McLaren improving to 1,67 and Mercedes slightly improved to 7,56 due to Rosberg's competitive showing. This enables us to rate drivers independent of the car.

Image

In the car corrected driver odds Alonso always held a strong position this season and still holds strong. Vettel clearly has a very strong potential but it isn't proven yet by a championship. Rosberg came out of nowhere in the last races achieving better results than the Merc is currently capable off. But Rosberg is even more unproven than Vettel. He hasn't even fought a championship to runner up yet.

So realistically Ferrari can pick between Alonso and Hamilton if they had a vacancy for their top driver. Based on performance they have no reason today to drop Alonso. He is a very safe bet to deliver another championship to Ferrari if they give him a car that beats the competition. As it stands Ferrari isn't dominant and so they may loose both championships to Red Bull and Vettel. If they do it, it is not due to the drivers but to the cars. Remember both drivers have gone through three of eight engines already in the space of three of nineteen races.

Yea' it really has to suck to be leading the WDC For Ferrari.
I wonder which hot FEMALE Italian model he had to bone down on to get that gig.
They're is an Italian term that fits Fred a little more appropriately.

On another subject, I'm surprised that he hasn't spit the dummy by now, thats twice that Massa didnt let him past. Sucks to be in the number 2 car.

Wow Fred's # 2 at Ferrari. Is that hot off the press? Your jealousy has plethorized (just made that word up) One example: Weak attempts to try to feel better about whatever it is you do by taking a swipe at a guy who's jock you couldn't hold on your best day!

where's the problem ?
alonso is a class act , apart from hamilton he is clearly the equal of any driver in the field , and quite capable of winning the world championship providing

he has the best car
he doesn't have a competitive team mate

ok , McLaren got rid of him ...but only because they had hamilton who was clearly going to be better ....even in his first season , a once in 20 years man as frank williams put it ...if you think uncle ron puts anything ahead of his beloved team , even hamilton , you cannot be serious ! would have been the easiest thing in the world to farm hamilton out elsewhere for a couple of years while alonso was there , any other team would have wet itself to get him

but massa is well entrenched at ferrari , and too close to alonso , I reckon he will stay ...and that will cost ferrari dearly

I wouldn't mind watching a repeat of McLaren 2007 at Ferrari. It would have some entertainment value for sure. There are no rational reasons for Ferrari to replace Massa just to please Alonso's ego. So I'm afraid he will have to learn to live with a strong team mate. There are some initial signs that he will actually grow up to do exactly that.

Understatement of the season.
WB personally I really like what you've done with the graphs on the betting odds. I think (if you have the time and patience) that you should add a line graph showing the movement of the contenders @ 3 intervals. Firs at the return to Europe, the half way point of the season, and then the 3/4 point in the season.
Cheers!

Joe Saward wrote:Felipe Massa is very close to renewing his contract with Ferrari for a further three seasons, despite rumours that the Italian team is chasing the likes of Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel. The current contract runs out at the end of this year but Ferrari is keen to continue the arrangement and a contract has already been prepared and is expected to be signs shortly. This means that the relationship with Fernando Alonso will continue for at least two more years, as the Spanish driver has a deal that lasts until the end of 2012. Massa has been at Ferrari since 2006, although he was a test driver back in 2003. He did a year with Michael Schumacher, three with Kimi Raikkonen and is now embarked on a season alongside Alonso.
Ferrari and Massa are doing as expected.

don't you think having a couple of world championship's on your CV and bringing in $30 million sponsorship would merit a bit extra ?
