Holes in that region are quite common for KERS and electronic cooling.

@Lurk, yes exactly, can they make an entry here (on both sides as we can see) to have more fresh air under the floor and thus for the diffuser?

Diffuser on F2012 looks massive compared to MP4-27, doesn't it?

I'm no aerodynamicist either but an explaination could be that because the agressive attack it creates lots of downforce that doesn't have to be found on the front wing plus that it's created at the front suspension which is more stable and consistant instead of the front wing. It also creates much less drag on the driver's helmet which I think is a big plus. Just my cents though and would gladly be corrected if my reasoning is wrong.

So the front wing will not be blown?

On the R29 the hole was for KERS cooling, so id suggest it will be foir the same usage in the Ferrari, looks like they have put their batteries as low as they can for a better CoG.

Seemingly Ferrari have a brand new layout for their electronics, adopting the more common solution to put the SECU under the drivers seat now and the KERS batteries under the fuel tank and running more cooling there. It also moves the weight distrubution slightly more rearward before ballast.

My guess is the Ferrari is now alot lighter in the front in order to work the rear tyres better, also looks as if they are running their car overweight in order to get the optimal weight distrubution for the tyres, but staying in the mandatory weight limits at the front axle and rear axle. However it wont be by much, posibly running their car at 650kg as 10kg may just we what they need to get the Pirellis working this year.

However new car, new philosiphy, we will see what its like in the next week or two.

Um... the nose cone has nothing to do with the front wing F-duct. The rules state that the nose hole must not be for anything other than driver and nose component cooling. Therefore any intake for the F-duct must be on the wing itself.

The beam wing on the F2012 is incorporated/touching the rear crash structure. Because of this I believe Ferrari is trying to get the exhaust to said beam wing & not so much the ducts. Of course they could change as most teams are going to experiment with different configs.

i it was the same diffuser as redbull, why did they hide it? the diffuser of the rb7 was shaped for being blowed by exhausts.
