Two things to consider first - the temperatures are hot which is possibly aiding them; we haven't seen if they've sacrificed a little bit of race pace in order to gain in quali.

I think car is very good mechanically and struggles to get temperature in tyres, so Bahrain was well suited to them.

Importantly, Hamilton saved a lot more tyres than Vettel did, who will do must of his running on the Hard whereas I think the Mclarens are going to be running the soft a lot more.

Either way it's so darned close that next race it could all change again. The top three or four teams are only an update away from having the advantage shift completely again.

Alonso came out with a old set of soft tyres and forced the rest to run theirs new or used tyres.
He didn't set up a time and now he has the option to start with the tyres he wants and also the option of having a fresh new hard tyres

I agree with SiLo Hamilton has saved a lot more, plus the hot climate is aiding the bulls.

I certainly hope so, I don't think i'm the only one who wants to see the bulls stay in the pen this year.

So did Red Bull settle for sacrificing their tyres to get pole or was it genuinely better in single lap pace?

It also seems everyone in the top five was having stability issues trying to set their final fastest lap in Q3 apart from Hamilton. A sign for how the race pace/balance will be?

Either way, Vettel is back on pole!

Vettel had to do a second run on primes in Q1, and did an out and in lap on options in Q2.

He has 3 new sets of hards. The others have 2. Not a massive difference IMO.

I think the race tyre could be the prime - possibly a 3 stop option-prime-prime-prime.

He didn't. He just did one out and one in lap.

Most of those were overlapped though - he didn't brandish new tyres for every run.

Hopefully for the first and last time this season, I'm all for the Silver Arrows/Macca this year.

Force India was getting no screen time at all. FOM seemed to be deliberately keeping them off screen. At once point there was only 3 cars on track, and 2 were FI.

Their only screen time was when in a shot of another car. Not garage, no mechanics, nothing.

Can it be a coincidence? I'm not big on conspiracy but this is blatant.

in total vettel and webber did 18 and 17 laps respectively.

Hamilton did 13, Button 12 and Rosberg 10.

I knew it from the beginning that Vettel would be on pole and I was reluctant to watch the qualifying session. Damn, I hate it when I'm right about seeing my least favorite driver on pole! I hope the race will end with either Lewis or Nico or at least Mark winning it.
I don't think Red Bull has found speed in their car. The track suited them pretty well. The conditions mostly.
