Last year the intake behind the airbox looked smaller and this year that zone is not part of the whole engine cover, as it used to be on the f2012. It could be easily enlarged to be both a gearbox cooler and a DRD intake (as it was on Mercedes last year).
You are right! i meant at the moment it is used for cooling and it is not just hollow as people suggested!

Let's wait and see how it develops for Ferrari, hoping for track confirmation of windtunnel data this time.

Yes, they are small sidepods, but they are higher and I would say not necessarily smaller than many others. F138 simply has more flow around the floor area because the mass is placed higher. An aero gain is more beneficial than a CoG gain in this case, they should hope anyway.
Ferraripilot wrote:Don't let your eyes fool you with this car, yes it has a very tight back end but understand the exhaust exits a few CM higher than other teams which simply allows us to see under the exhaust area more easily which gives the illusion that it's tighter than it may be. I do not specifically see how the car is tighter than others so far,
I thought that was the discussion point?

Point being it was irrelevant if they had more mass higher up.

Keep in mind this isn´t perfect angles but somewhat close,

You can´t see the Red Bull side pod and the Ferrari side pod? they are miles apart.

The scale is off I think. Look at the tyres - you shouldn't be able to see two silhouettes like that.

Made a slightly better one, again as i said it´s not perfect angles but it´s close enough to see there´s a massive difference in sidepod undercut.
Can easily be seen by comparing the offset in rim vs offset in sidepod waistline.
Both have this smoothing out at the bottom of the sidepods so i simply drew the line where the paint ends, before the smoothing bit.

Would love to get two near idenctical angles as that would be optimal.

Yup. I cannot deduce anything from the above overlay.

Have a look at the side profile comparisons of the various cars, just notice between mclaren for instance that their sidepods have their mass lower and the exhaust exit is lower by comparison. I believe exiting lower maintains more exhaust velocity as the exhaust retains more of its speed when it has a shorter path to travel prior to the diffuser. F138 is clearly placing more weight on laminar flow around and under the exhaust exit than other teams otherwise Ferrari would have not made this area so large and exit the exhaust so high.

@ amouzouris
I can not see space between gearbox and floor.
Cant you show me in pic where is it.
Thanks.
