How were the Bridgestones designed? How were they able to make a car require multiple stops, or at least make a multiple stop race much quicker?

Although these tyres will make pitting decisions quite crucial.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but did the teams run a 'development tyre' in Brazil and gave good feed back to Pirelli?

I dont like the rule to run the start of the race on the tyre you qualified with, but i am a fan of having to run the 2 type of tyre in the race

It would have been a better idea to keep those tyres from last year and impose a mandatory number of pit stops per race, depending on the pitstops they did last year in a particular race and adding 2 more.
E.g. if 2012 Melbourne race was a 2 stopper race, then mandatory must be a 4 stop race for this year ...

Well I'm no tyre expert, but I think in lamens terms they were slower over 1 lap, had a wider working window, but lasted longer. It got to the point where people were doing almost a full race on Bridgestones and stopping on the last lap (I think Vettel was one man to do this, in Japan? )

so they are indeed using a bit of a different layout to the circuit in sector 3! i didn't know that and it looks like a shorter route. it partially explains the closeness in lap times with the 2012 qualifying.
edit: * hmm, or maybe im wrong *

thanks for the videos!

Looks the same to me. Pretty sure its the same final sector as used in F1 recently

I´m a little bit confused about certain times like Red Bull being in the 1.30´s etc.

Last year´s quali was 1.21.7
This was nearly done today with Perez in the Mclaren with what i would guess is more fuel then running on fumes basically.
And the fact that DRS is not used everywhere anymore.
New tires i guess makes up for it as well but anyways.

I was under the impression that fumes vs full tank was around 5 seconds including the no DRS use in the race (for the leader)

But let´s say Vettel, 1.21 today but then race runs up in the 1.30´s,
That´s quite a large gap imo.

Even if he was running absolute full tank i can´t understand how he can be so many seconds of his quickest time.
Think his slowest was 1.34? 13 seconds i´m sure isn´t what you lose from 100+kg´s of fuel.

Sandbagging perhaps?

One thing is clear, I'm still not used to seeing so much difference between fast qualy laps and race laps. It's become... Endurance racing.

Which is why F1 should soon merge with LMP1. Some more body work and weight will do the trick to get it to spec.

Interesting. Note how hard Lewis nails the throttle just out of turn 1. Yet I believe at turn 7 he takes a fairly wide line. The car looks good though. Very stable under braking with nice turn in.

He closes the rear wing flap more or less a full second before he starts braking. Would you guys rather say it's regular practice during testing, or is their DRD causing reattachment issues like their DDRS was doing last season. I can't really tell from the vid. though if they got the DRD on the car or not.

It seems to be something he does at times. I remember in Monza 2011 (when he was trying to pass Schumacher for something like 20-odd laps) Lewis was always closing his DRS before the braking zone. And that was with a properly blown diffuser with overrun mapping, not the half-blown coanda exhaust diffusers we have nowadays.
