Renault Sport F1 R.S. 18

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Crazy amount of detail around the bargeboards.

Not sure if anyone noticed but the sidepod flow conditioners and deflectors on each side of the car are different in that image. The right hand side is the latest red bull inspired set up and left hand side is the old version.
It really is odd, maybe that's because they wanted to get both designs past scrutineering.
Looking at the FP3 and qualifying sessions they ran the old aero cat design. They debuted the RB-inspired design in Singapore and only raced it there.

Well, even if the design didn't show itself under its best angle in Sochi, at least, there will be some data to analyse, they'll have feedback and experience to design their next car. I'm not sure that there is some potential to develop in the "four blade Gillette close shave" design, but hey, if it can help bring out something new...

Unlikely. Just more excuses from Cyril for under-performing.

as in.... no, they´ve been steadily improving since then, and I´m curious about next season sincerely, they may even match RBR if they go a bit backwards with Honda

This is the car hardware thread, people. Performance should be discussed in the team thread.

Improving on the chassis, not the engine. At least not enough. It's funny though, Cyril is now saying he's worried about Honda because their development budget is much higher and this is a big reason Renault is behind. Seems like their parent company isn't committed enough like other manufacturers. Maybe 4th in the WCC might help increase budget.

Since Mercedes and Renault are Co owning each other, maybe it would make sense if Mercedes and Renault will Co operate instead of competing.

Whereas it is off topic, yes, there is a commercial tie-up between Daimler and Renault ! My last car was a Merc, and it had a Renault engine in it. Mind you, it was pretty gutless !

Renault own just over 1% of Daimler shares, that is not the same thing as Co-owning
