That's two races in a row where he's had setup issues, with the team finding mysterious yet unspecified issues with suspension components after the last race. Now we have Hamilton unable to improve his time when he switches to the option tyre, whereas everyone else goes faster, and then having no pace on the long run on it either. All this whilst the team are telling his team mate that he's the fastest on the option tyre on the long runs.

I know you should never attribute to malice anything that can be explained by incompetence, but are McLaren really THAT incompetent? He's had a great setup the rest of the season, only really making a mistake with it in Spa, and now has two races in a row where he/they can't set the car up?
I think its quite obvious tbh.

He now has Webber-itis.

Having the season of his life performance-wise. Signs a contract and speed, tyre management, setup ability and reliability all evaporate.

And if he takes pole in Korea it will all just be mumbo jumbo.

Since the failure at Singapore, I can totally understand anyone leaving Mclaren. The car has gone backwards recenty and breaks down more than the other 2 front teams.

The MP4-27 is proving again that Mclaren can make a decent car, but when it matters it falls to pieces and Mclaren cant do anything yet again. Lewis will leave and have no regrets, especially after the last 4 cars Mclaren have provided him with. Cant wait to see him in a new team.

Can't agree with you more.

There is obviously something rotten in the process.

I'm sure Lewis will rest easy knowing he can at least eat is dinner off the factory floor... One wonders if the obsessive compulsive disorder inflicted on team is at odds with winning.

And going to Mercedes?? To do what?? Fight Marussia and Carteham next season.

Leaving Mclaren is understandable if your going to Ferrari or Red Bull or at the worst Lotus, not Mercedes. Its all a stupid Money Making Move which is going to destroy Lewis' career once and for all. I wonder how he will feel when Button & Perez will lap him race after race and he will be given blue flags and asked to move over when Button-Perez will be fighting Vettel-Alonso for the win.

And with Mercedes' history this will go on for 3 years. 3 years of Suffering for Hamilton with Brawn's lies about how the tyre fell out of the window and came back in 2 minute and how the car being 2cm longer is making it eat its tyre.

I totally agree and I am starting to believe Hamilton made the right choice.

McLaren is now a race-winning team, not a championship-winning team. It sucks.

It's only a matter of time McLaren finds a solution and can fight for the WC again.

Their car is radically different compared to the other top teams. I still think their low smooth nose is working against them.

In their opinion they have a lower COG but that is not really the key i think. They should try the "step" nose.

Their only problem is that they lack the strategic prowess and the ability to create a fast car that can withstand a grand prix season.

It goes back to the Raikkonen days. He also had to leave them to get a WDC (which so ironically came from McLaren basically giving it away).

Fair point, lack WCC/WDC consistency for a few years now. Sad but true!

It pains me to say it. But it's so blindingly obvious what McLaren needs to do to become a championship-winning team again. It's the execution that is giving McLaren headaches................

1) Design a car that is fast out of the box so McLaren doesn't have to play catch-up like it has done. (give up on 2012 and move on to the 2013 design, Ferrari and Red-Bull will be throwing the kitchen sink to the remaining races until the championships are decided.)
2) Reliability, can someone tell me why is McLaren still experiencing so many gearbox failures????( Martin Whitmarsh said it's a quality control issue and not a design issue. Maybe the gearbox design is too marginal and manufacturing is having a hard time producing the parts to spec.)
3) Pit-lane organisation (though the catastrophic failures have been largely cured, lightning-fast pit-stops have been few and far between in recent races.)

For a Mclaren Fan since the 1980s, it is sad to see their performance in recent years. The team lacks consistency and reliability, especially this year. If they hadn't thrown those points away, they are leading in both championships. Of course I know there is no 'if' in this world.
I hope they can continue to improve this year and stir up fights between Ferrari and Redbull, it will be fun for the prospectors. And since the technical rules remain very much the same next year, they may find something useful for the MP4-28.
