Grosjean is making the Lotus look very sticky though.

Looks very stable through on the chicanes.

Kovalainens engine went up in smoke inside the tunnel, of all places! Red flag.

And I didn't catch whatever happened to Schumacher, but I thought it was just a normal pylon failure due to the rough kerb action?

I suspect he broke it on the high kerbs but not 100% certain.

So Alonso tops FP1 with a 1:16:265 as Kovalainen blows up his Renault engine in the tunnel. Lots of oil right on the apex in the tunnel. The session will NOT be restarted.

I would say even more encouraging for Ferrari than Alonso's pace is that Massa is there or thereabouts. Car must be working OKish if both drivers can make it work, even though we saw a bit of understeer in that session

Good thing is that when all big shots was on track, Alonso's time was bad. But that will with rain in Sunday cover up all problems of Ferrari, and Montenzemolo will say they need "trust in our own strength"

I doubt it - I don't think we can single it down to the pullrod front

Also encouraging is that they've gone faster than last year's FP1 benchmark time. :)

...And Karthikeyan is faster than PdLR and the Marussias!

Renault Sport about the engine that blew up at the back of CT01.
The engine had done over 2000km incl the first two complete race weekends and was due to be changed tonight for the rest of the weekend.

Understeering on the FP1 as usual in Monaco, would disapear when more grip on the track is.
That is something that Felipe should know
