Following the signature of the commercial agreement with FOM this week by Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team is pleased to announce that Lewis Hamilton has signed a three-year agreement to race for the team from the 2013 Formula One season.

The Perez thing surprised me as well. He was only "ok" in 2011. Rosberg is really the driver that McLaren need - a qualifying specialist to replace Hamilton's skill in that regard.

well what evidence have you seen that he possesses that all round capability? please, show me, and if the evidence is good i will change my mind.
Well he is in a championship challenging car this year, he bested Alonso (even if only on countback) in his rookie year, and how exactly are Schumacher, Alonso and Vettel doing at car development this year? You put those guys in a different league and call Hamilton stupid without a shred of evidence, nor with those guys doing a better job at car development this year. I guess you're going to attribute the McLaren's pace to the team not the drivers, whilst praising the wonders that the drivers are doing at developing other cars. Frankly it's all very fanboyish.

Oh dear, oh dear. How in the wheels of Jesus are Mercedes going to survive in F1 with these two. Neither of these guys has the insight to build a Lego team. It'll be a game of pass the brain cell.

For Hamilton I hope this is a chance for him to build a team around him and get the level of service that Vettel and Alonso have managed to engineer for themselves.
there is absolutely Zero evidence that Hamilton has the brains or capability to build a team around him the way schumi, alonso or Vettel have. If anything, he alienates them if things arent going well.
he simply doesnt have the brains, which is why he'll never be this multiple championship winning driver. Alonso is in a different league right now, and Vettel is the next schumi. I can't see that stopping for the next 4 years.
Spot on bro. Can you make these kinds of posts regularly so I don't have to do it myself and risk a ban (I continously get warnings for calling out Hamilton's lack of... )
"There is a credit card with the Ferrari logo, issued by Santander, which gives the scuderia a % of purchases made with the card...
I would guess that such a serious amount of money would allow them to ignore the constant complains of a car that was nowhere near as bad as their #1 driver tried to sell throughout the season.
Heck, a car on which Massa finishes in the podium or has to lift so that his teammate finishes ahead (As we saw often in the final races of the year) is, by no means, a "bad" car."
Obviously we dont know all the details and motivations behind this bold move but i think we can all agree that it was a BOLD move by Lewis. He is a skilled driver, but i am not confident in his ability to build a team.
He is currently in a team that is a championship winning team of the highest caliber (god that was tough to say) and has every tool at his disposal to win. When things go wrong, and they do sometimes, he throws a temper tantrum or posts sensitive information on Twitter. When it was Alonso and Hamilton, he decried that Alonso was treated as No 1 in the team and complained that they both should get equal treatment. Now he is complaining that the team doesnt throw everything behind him as No 1. He cries about the fact that he gets replica trophies while at the same time KNOWING that Senna, Piquet, Prost, etc, drivers that are WAY (and i cant stress WAY enough) above his talent level also had this same treatment.
(As a side note, i think there should always be a 1 and 2 in a team. Possibly that evolves over a season but a team needs to get behind one driver for a final push. Sometimes it is a logical choice, other times it is difficult.)
Does Mercedes have winning potential, yes....like most other teams. Has it shown that it can win, in my opinion, No. Sure it was formerly the Championship winning Brawn team, but that was a fluke. Since taking the reins, Mercedes has done nothing. Mercedes isnt going to throw unlimited amounts of money at this team to make it work. THey have publicly said so.
Unfortunately all these things make me feel like this was a bad idea for both parties involved. If things dont go well in 2013, will we see Hamilton throw temper tantrums again? Does he now get to keep his trophies? What happens the first time there is a pit stop error or mechanical failure on Hamilton's car but no Nicos? In order to make this work he has to get a little bit of the IceMan in him. He also needs to learn to be a better leader.
As a side question: Do you think that if Lewis' dad was still his manager that this move would have happened?
Perhaps Mercedes has an actually good car for next year? Maybe they granted Hamilton #1 status? Maybe they offered him more money? I no longer really like Mercedes now.
