I personally think Mercedes is - possibly Ferrari too with that latest run. I don't think the others are.
Meh.

Getting the tyres warmed up within a lap or two for quick times on a cold track is something I would worry about, not slap myself on the back for.

I'd guess by mid-season we'll be talking about how Merc still haven't resolved their tyre degradation problems as they'll continue to sink too much heat into the tyres.

Alonso did the fastest first sector, personal best second but lost in the third...hasn't that been the constant issue for Ferrari at Barcelona?
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

On the same breath, those who have had consistent long runs (first and second tests) on an even cooler track conditions, should bother even more. Is it? Lotus especially.

Last year the tyre degradation was visible at winter testing. This year it isn't. Why do you think they'll have degradation problems? Do you have info the rest of us don't? If you do please share.

No. Why would you say that?

Consistent long runs with significant fuel would indicate that a manageable amount of heat is going into the tyre, despite the heavier car weight. Bringing the tyre up to temperature over several laps is not an issue.

Building enough heat in the tyre in one warmup lap and having a subsequent very quick 'qualifier' on such a cold day would concern me.

11:05 And Alonso does it, a 1m20.606s, just a fraction down on Hamilton's best yesterday.

1:20:1 for Rosberg, someone needs to tell Merc that this is testing not Q3.

Looks like Rosberg is testing out the new "automatically find half a second in Q3" button that Seb had on his wheel throughout 2011.

Working well so far it seems.

'Cos Hamilton has already indicated they are down on downforce compared to last years McLaren.

'Cos nothing from those watching from beside the circuit has indicated the Merc is handling in any way contrary to Hamilton's claims.

The Merc is probably sliding around a bit more than the rest , getting heat into the tyre quickly and thus getting a good time on a 'new' tyre. The others need a few laps and don't look as good as the tyres are a bit more worn. [Same for Ferrari.]

It'll be similar as the Jaguar in 2002 at Indy. Looked great on the cold track on the Friday - not so good when the temps rose and they were putting too much heat into the tyres.
