It only makes sense: they no longer have the speed at the corners to make up lost ground on the straights. Not to mention their inability to overtake in a straight line.JimClarkFan wrote:
Adrian Newey seems to have taken a bit of departure from his high downforce philosophy, assuming that wasn't the maximum downforce the reds bulls had on.

Shame we don't see that more often from him, he had 3 carbon copy laps, all good enough for pole in the 1.47.5-6s.
Just shows that when he gets the balance right, and gets confidence in the car he is a contender for the fastest driver out there, maybe fastest of all in a perfectly balanced car.
If he was just a bit more adaptable with a car that doesn't suit his driving style I feel he would be in a much better position to challenge for the championship.

They can be both right you know but just measured at different points in circuit.zyphro wrote:Nopeandrewf1 wrote:those speed trap numbers are wrong, the mclaren website shows the saubers being the fastest, with 330 kph.

Speed trap is after turn 4 which means almost at the beginning of Kemmel Straight.andrewf1 wrote:yes but why would you put the measurement point somewhere half-way along the straight and not at the end of it?
also, i think 310 kph is a bit too slow for Spa and the Kemmel Straight
F1 cars these days don't even get up to 330kph, do they. I've not seen that speed for several years.andrewf1 wrote:those speed trap numbers are wrong, the mclaren website shows the saubers being the fastest, with 330 kph.

Indeed, but its not just me who says it. The problem is how often will he ever find himself in a car perfectly balanced and suited to his style. Not very often, but when he does he comes alive.LionKing wrote:It was his pole since Monaco 2009JimClarkFan wrote:Button was flawless today.

He lost qualifying battle to Rubens when they were teammates for 4 years in Brawn. He was 10-0 down to Hamilton this year. Button contender for the fastest guy? not even close. I think there are more than 10 drivers on current grid faster than Button.
Of course they do. They do just barely short of 350 @ Monza.JimClarkFan wrote:andrewf1 wrote:those speed trap numbers are wrong, the mclaren website shows the saubers being the fastest, with 330 kph.

In qualifying, Button is not the man you turn to for fastest laps. His better turn is in the race, where his strategy calls and tire-preservation serves best. While I'm not the biggest Button-Fan by a large margin, he laid out the best lap out there by the same said margin. Anyways....GO KOBY! well, the f1 website shows 349 kph top speed at Monza last year, so it is possible. anyways, what i was trying to say in essence is that those figures are misleading and Red Bull are not the fastest through the straights.JimClarkFan wrote:andrewf1 wrote:those speed trap numbers are wrong, the mclaren website shows the saubers being the fastest, with 330 kph.
