That alpine is setup really well. Rain driving is probably Alonso's biggest weakness.
I want to see him jump max and defend like his life depended on it. Lewis should be able to keep up with Sainz as the tyres wear off.
As much as I would like Sainz to win this, he is not challenge to Max. Max wins this easily. My second pic for the win is Hamilton. Somehow I think he can do something, even though he is not the fastest package out there.
Race should be fun, I am just hoping for no turn 1 incidents.

No he is no rain driver. This very same Canadian GP he has spun on the kerbs in his Ferrari. He isnt rubbish in the rain, dont get me wrong, he just isn't spectacular and statistics support that. He has had many wet races in podium capable cars and hasnt done beyond expectations in them. Relative to others, Max, Norris, Russel, Hamilton, even Magnussen, Alonso is respectable; but he doesnt have amy standout rain drives outside of that 2006 race you mentioned which was ages ago in the fastest car.

Leclerc and Perez will have to deal with the carnage that comes with starting from the back. How much will they risk gaining positions on the first lap? It will be a high risk/high reward situation.

He isn’t in any way a bad driver in the rain (nor do I think that’s what he said), but I can also see why someone would say it’s not his strongest attribute.

He’s had some good wet wins - like Malaysia 2012 - and was strong a few times in the wet in 2006 (eg also in China that year - let down by his team and also a great drive from Michael) but equally there aren’t that many standout wet races to pick from given his years in the sport. Probably easier to think of more big wet races for Max already (not to mention the likes of Lewis, Michael, Ayrton etc).

Anyway, he did awesome today and hopefully he’ll have a great start and have a strong race.

Equipment plays an important role in wet, unless the driver is extra ordinary like Ayrton and Michael have proven. Fernando, Seb and Lewis are in second category. Max is definitely vying for the first one and only time will tell if he firmly joins that group or the second one. Then there are average wet drivers like Massa, Bottas and Ric. I said these names because they had the equipment, but failed consistently. It appears George has great talent in wet. Since last year Lewis hasn't done anything notable in wet, which highlights the quality of equipment he had in previous years.

someone taking the lead from 2nd in Canada must be at least as long ago, though . To have a chance, the start must be way superiour, and even then you're still likely to get pushed wide

edit: I went back till 2000, and no one grabbed the lead from 2nd. Fisichella just took it from 4th, though, and Vettel from 3rd. That's it since then.
