Another more significant meaning is that panda is used to describe people with dark eye circles, aka people who work late into night and suffered lack of sleep. This statement is quite true, as F1 crew members, such as Rob Smedley, are often work late into night to get their respective cars ready for the race, and thus suffered lack of sleep.
